What do you do?: English Literature/Creative Writing Student/Zoologist
Hobbies and/or interests: Comic books, computer games, (girlfriend), eating, natural history and comics. hang on....
How long have you been writing? God knows. A long damn time.
Do you write anything non-fan fiction? Yes, currently working on a short story collection for a small publisher, as well as a number of short stories for various anthology submissions. Doesn't mean they're any good.
What are your main inspirations when writing? Trying to do something different. That's pretty much it.
Would you like to write for a comic company? Yes. This is my actual dream.
Who is your favorite comic author? Novel author? Comics - Hard to say. Ellis or Morrison. Novel? Hrm. Rather like Greg Bear at the moment
Who is your favorite comic characters? Marvel? DC? Other? DC - Animal Man, Swamp Thing and Doctor Fate Marvel - Doctor Strange, Captain Britain, Namor
What is your favorite comic story? Marvel? DC? Other? Pretty much all of the first volume of Animal Man. I think, with Delano's run being a favourite stand out. Doctor Strange Blood Oath is up there, and I fell in love with Promethea again recently.
What moment in comic history most influenced you/made you a comic fan? Not one moment, but since I bought Earth X I have been obsessed with continuity.
Why did you choose your character(s) to write? I haven't chosen any yet, but I feel the world has a lack of representation of Animal Man/Swamp Thing in the Fic world. More over, nobody else apparently wants to write the Traci 13/ Black Alice/Cyborg epic that brews in my brain areas.
What character that you did not claim would you like to try your hand at most? Probably most of the DC Magic Universe. I've not had a chance to properly wreck it yet.

What do you do?: Cog in the Machine of the Evil Empire (Client Services Officer for Wells Fargo)
Hobbies and/or interests: cooking, writing, comic books (obviously), drinking, and assorted other things
How long have you been writing? Since I was a kid. My kindergarten teacher (who is my aunt's niece by marriage) tells me about the first short story I ever wrote and how she still has a copy of it. I was five and in her class when it was written.
Do you write anything non-fan fiction? Yes. My first novel is in the works. The Crimson Fox stories here are actually borrowing some of the concepts I'm using in that. It is kind of a dry run to see how people respond to certain aspects of the story.
What are your main inspirations when writing? I do it to get laid. Seriously, its just something I do. I don't know that I have any big inspirations.
Would you like to write for a comic company? Only if it was DC, and then only select characters. Or an independent publisher, where I had full creative control.
Who is your favorite comic author? Novel author? Comics - Greg Rucka or Judd Winick (I'm torn). Novel? For fiction, I'd have to go with Barb & J.C. Hendee at the moment.
Who is your favorite comic characters? Marvel? DC? Other? DC - Wonder Woman, Green Arrow and Animal Man Marvel - yuck
What is your favorite comic story? Marvel? DC? Other? Any and all of Rucka's run on Wonder Woman.
What moment in comic history most influenced you/made you a comic fan? I hadn't read comics since I was a kid, but when I moved 4 years ago it was going to be days til I had cable or internet, and all my books were packed and en route on the truck. So I hit Barnes & Noble and picked up Infinite Crisis, and that got me back into comics big time.
Why did you choose your character(s) to write? My first thoughts were Hawk & Dove and it was going to be a story of political intrigue and all around comics goodness. That didn't work out. I chose to go with Crimson Fox so I could write a horror book instead and try out some of the concepts from the aforementioned novel.
What character that you did not claim would you like to try your hand at most? Wonder Woman.

Name: Michael (or Mike if you prefer) Age: 42 (not the answer to life, the universe, or anything really) What do you do?: I used to teach high school history and medieval and Islamic history at the university as an adjunct, but these days I am mostly a househusband, selling comics and geek stuff at conventions, serving as a back issue consultant for the local comic shop and working at a friend's restaurant a few days a week Hobbies and/or interests: comics, fantasy, some sci-fi, mythology, archaeology & anthropology, speculative history, music (rock, blues, jazz & funk), genre television and movies, role playing games (mostly D&D), and other various and sundry things How long have you been writing? Longer than many posters in this thread have been alive Though this is my first foray into fan-fiction Do you write anything non-fan fiction? Yes-published: textbooks on writing and language arts for the Princeton Review, adventure modules for Dungeons & Dragons by a third party publisher, thousands of lectures, presentations at conferences, etc. & historical articles Unpublished-transitioning into writing fiction-short stories, novels, scripts, a little poetry, etc. have some in progress, some on much later drafts, revisions (story complete but still editing and revising) I have also done some editing and proofreading professionally. What are your main inspirations when writing? Sometimes it is a character who appears in my head and forces me to tell their story, sometimes it is a scene that I conceive and I then have to expand forward and backwards to craft it into a full-blown story, sometimes it is a reaction to something I read or saw, there are many inspirations. Sometimes there is no inspiration, but you have to write anyways. I try to make sure I write 5-10,000 words per week no matter what. When there is no inspiration I just do some automatic writing until something coherent starts to emerge. There is 99% junk there, but often a nugget or two worthwhile to keep, polish, expand, revise, etc. For academic writing-I usually have a question that intrigues me and then begin research and analysis to answer it, and then you are left with a bunch of material you have to do something with, so you might as well write an article or book, or whatever. Would you like to write for a comic company? Comics are a young man's game and I am no longer young But if a chance to write Doc Strange or the Phantom stranger came along, I would jump at it, or if I had a chance to do some creator owned stuff I might. Who is your favorite comic author? Novel author? Comics top 5 in no order: Jim Starlin, Neil Gaiman, pre-Filth Grant Morrison (after that not so much), Brian K. Vaughan, Steve Englehart Novels-let's go fiction instead as I read a lot of short stories as well-Robert E. Howard, George R.R. Martin, Neil Gaiman, Jim Butcher, Robert Anton Wilson Who is your favorite comic characters? Marvel? DC? Other? DC - Phantom Stranger, Madame Xanadu, Zatanna, Batman, Spectre, Dr. Fate Marvel - Dr. Strange, Ulysses Bloodstone, Wolverine, Thanos (pre-Infinity Gauntlet) Other-Conan, Hellboy & the B.P.R.D., Vanth Dreadstar, Bigby Wolf What is your favorite comic story? Marvel? DC? Other? DC: Batman Year One, The Pact (by Kirby-New Gods #7?), Ostrander & MAndrake's Spectre run, Wolfman & Perez's New Teen Titans, Season of Mists (Neil Gaiman's Sandman), A Midsummer Night's Dream by Gaiman/Vess Marvel: The Thanos Saga by Starlin (Captain Marvel-Warlock-culminating in Avengers Annual 7 & Marvel Two-in-One Ann 2), , Thomas Buscema's Death of Belit in Conan, Englehart's Dr. Strange, Stern's Dr. Strange Other: Starlin's Dreadstar, Busiek/Nord's Conan, Willingham's Fables, BKV's Y the Last Man What moment in comic history most influenced you/made you a comic fan? The Perez illustrated Ultron story in Avengers 161 and 162 and the 2 part Death of Thanos story in Avengers Annual 7/Marvel-Two-In One Annual 2, these two stories read as a kid solidified comics as a sense of wonder for me. Why did you choose your character(s) to write? I haven't claimed a series yet, but it is in the works, but they are characters that speak to me and placed a story in my psyche that I need to tell . What character that you did not claim would you like to try your hand at most? let's see what happens with the first idea first, but perhaps an Ultimate Warlord, Claw the Unconquered, or Arak. -M

What do you do?: Unemployed, though I am trying to get into college and will be applying for jobs soon.
Hobbies and/or interests: Reading and video games.
How long have you been writing? Uh, kind of hard to say. I tried writing multiple stories the past couple of years, but each one kept getting scrapped because of the DANG STUPID PLOT HOLES! A couple of months ago, I started writing on fanfiction.com and had gotten some good reviews and a couple of people favoriting them. That was long after I discovered this site, FYI. Honestly, the real reason I had joined in the first place was so I could review everyone's work. It was shortly after an explosion of ideas came to me that made me started claiming titles.
Do you write anything non-fan fiction? I did once. It was horrible! But hey, I was in elementary school at the time. I also tried other times, but my ideas just keeping getting scrapped because of plot holes that were too big to fill without ruining the original purpose of writing that particular story.
What are your main inspirations when writing? It happens randomly. One story I want to write some day actually came from a dream I had. It was weird and strange that is lead to a whole universe of ideas! Okay, so some of the universe parts was other stories I wanted that I had figured out how to combine the two ideas. But it doesn't matter, I will write those ideas one day!
Would you like to write for a comic company? Yes. Although it will take me a while to get used to everything. I won't ever be a comic book artist though. I simply suck at drawing!
Who is your favorite comic author? Novel author? Uh, I honestly don't read comics that much (Well, not recent ones. I will go to the library and grab some comic volumes there and buy some old comics from bookstores. Lately, I had been buying Civil War volumes from the bookstore lately), although I am thinking of going Geeks (Yes, that is the actual name of the store) and read up on Spider-Man and Resurrection Man. I won't be taking up on Batman, even though he is my favorite DC superhero, simply because I don't like what I heard about what DC is going with him. So, my favorite comic book writer would have to be Stan Lee. (I own a collection of Spider-Man comics detailing his first appearance to somewhere in the 40s. I also have a book that is collection of some of the very first Ghost Rider comics) My favorite novel writer is tied between J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, and R.L. Stine. (What? Ghostbumps was what got me to become such a huge reader.)
Who is your favorite comic characters? Marvel? DC? Other? DC - Batman Marvel - Spider-Man Other - Hellboy
What is your favorite comic story? Marvel? DC? Other? -Marvel: Uh...I will have to say either the Breakout event from Young Avengers or the story arc where the Green Goblin's identity was finally revealed.
DC: Hmm... *looks at recently grabbed books that are collection of comics* Batman Earth One was a pretty cool take on the Batman story. Then again, Superman Brainiac (Or is it Superman and Brainiac? It says the former on the front, but the latter on the back.) was pretty powerful. I am gonna try to grab Knightfall or Death of Superman. Maybe even The Long Halloween if I ever find it.
What moment in comic history most influenced you/made you a comic fan? I don't know. It was mostly the Spider-Man movie that did it actually. XD
Why did you choose your character(s) to write? Because Superman's story needed to be told. And I was too impatient to wait for someone else to take the title. Plus, I had a bunch of ideas that I wanted about Superman that I wanted to share. But only the Lex Luthor story will see the light. Toyman and Solomon Grundy, last time I checked, were already taken! LOL!
Suicide Squad I took simply because I liked the concept of it and I wanted to give it a try. So far, I have no regrets and I seriously can't wait for the Mad Hatter arc. It is gonna be so much fun. ;D
What character that you did not claim would you like to try your hand at most? Batman. Simply because it is Batman! And the fact he is the most familiar DC character to me.

What do you do?: Finishing up a BA in General Theatre, Right now I am unemployed but I just finished a show and a movie. Gonna be doing a few more things before I graduate. Trying to find a job in the area is kinda crappy though.
Hobbies and/or interests: Reading, Writing, Art, Anything really artistic I try a little bit of dabbling in the Arts. I tend to been a Jack of All Trades in my interests.
How long have you been writing? Really writing I'd say since high school. I've slowly been developing my style over the past few years. I'd say bout ten years of really trying hard.
Do you write anything non-fan fiction? Yes. A few scripts here and there and some of my original stuff I'm turning into a novel series if I can get it picked up.
What are your main inspirations when writing?
What's a story I want to read over and over again. That's what I want to write.
Would you like to write for a comic company?
Sure if they pay me well and don't screw me over on what they owe me.
Who is your favorite comic author? Novel author?
It's a tie between Alan Moore and Steve Ditko plotted things in comics but Scott McCloud's Zot is really amazing as well for a non superhero comic. Novel Author I gotta go with Clive Barker and Neil Gaiman.
Who is your favorite comic characters? Marvel? DC? Other?
DC: All the old Charlton Characters, All the Ditko characters, and a lot of the more urban heroes. I actually like Superman when he's written human instead of a walking joke.
Marvel: I like the marvel style but the only real character I would kill to write is the Nightcrawler. Just the perfect hero in his pathos and situation. Moon Knight and Deadpool are also pretty cool.
Other: Zot!, Something Positive (webcomic), Astro City, etc.
What is your favorite comic story? Marvel? DC? Other?
DC: A Death in the Family, Formerly Known as The Justice League (First one and the sequel), Any of the Sandman, Watchmen, etc.
Marvel: The Death of Captain Marvel.
Other: See the titles I posted earlier they're all pretty good haha.
What moment in comic history most influenced you/made you a comic fan?
Crisis on Infinite Earths, even though it was a cluster of a story, The Death of Captain Marvel, but the most recent one was when they killed Ted Kord.
Why did you choose your character(s) to write?
Something about these characters being sort of the oddballs but still really powerful characters. Together they make for a very interesting team and I figured having a team of "earth powered" heroes would help establish other ways for characters to get powers within the UDCU.
What character that you did not claim would you like to try your hand at most?
The Question. Hands down. Best character ever.

What do you do?: College student for English degree.
Hobbies and/or interests: Writing, reading, video games, roleplaying games, music, etc.
How long have you been writing? Since I was in middle school.
Do you write anything non-fan fiction? Yeah I write my own original stuff (actually have an unfinished original super hero novel that I've been writing off and on) but I write fan fiction as well and keep getting ideas for various fanfics I want to do. While I do like making up my own settings, I like to think of how I can put my own spin on a particular work or maybe how it could be re imagined with a new element.
What are your main inspirations when writing? I can't really pin point any one thing. I get inspiration for writing everywhere, whether its the movies I watch or the stories I read or things happening in my life. I'd have to pin point inspiration for a particular story on a case by case basis, really. I could tell you where I got inspiration to write a particular story, but not all stories in general really.
Would you like to write for a comic company? I think it'd be cool, but I'm sure it'd be much different than writing prose, which is what I'm used to. I probably wouldn't mind it, though.
Who is your favorite comic author? Novel author? I like quite a few, but I'm partial towards Grant Morrison. If I had to pick just one comic author I'd probably pick him. If I had to pick an artist, I'd probably pick Tim Sale. I dunno why, but I really like his really colorful style.
As for novel author, I really like George R.R. Martin, Phillip Pullman, Sergei Lukyananko, and a few others I can't think of at the moment. I like a large variety of books an authors, but their books stand out to me at the moment.
Who is your favorite comic characters? Marvel? DC? Other? DC - Batman Marvel - Spider-Man Other - Hmm... probably the Tick. I've read a lot of various non Marvel/DC comics and it's hard for me to choose just one character in particular, but Tick always puts a smile on my face either reading his comic or watching one of his shows.
What is your favorite comic story? Marvel? DC? Other? DC - 52 is probably my favorite. I also really like some Batman stuff like TDKR, Long Halloween, Killing Joke, etc. I also like the crisis storylines (though I've yet to read Final Crisis actually) but 52 takes the cake for me
Marvel - Hands down, Ultimate Spider-Man. It is my all time favorite ongoing comic series (and this says a lot because I identify myself as a DC person) and it is one of the few still ongoing comics that I've read every issue so far of.
Other - I've read quite a few, but I really liked the original Transformers comics (though I guess technically those were Marvel). I also have been enjoying the relatively recent comic Saga. Oh and I really enjoy Mark Millar's stuff like Kick-Ass and Wanted. Oh yeah, and The Tick is just pure awesome.
What moment in comic history most influenced you/made you a comic fan? I first got into comics reading a bit of Ultimate Marvel stuff (mostly a few Spider-Man and Ultimates comics). Ultimates kind of showed me that comics could be fairly grounded and mature, not just the crazy and colorful over the top stuff that comics seem to get a reputation for. Then I read Watchmen shortly thereafter because it is like the most recommended comic ever, pretty much, and I realized then that comics can be a genuine art form. Oh and around this time I started getting into the Justice League tv show, which showed me that there was a LOT more to DC than just Superman and Batman. This led me to look into reading some DC comics which led me to become a HUGE DC fan.
Why did you choose your character(s) to write? I absolutely loved Stormwatch and I saw that it was free, so I started thinking it over and thought of an interesting way I could use some relatively obscure characters as villains and decided to claim them.
What character that you did not claim would you like to try your hand at most? Hmm... dunno. I wouldn't really mind anything. I did actually have a bit of an idea for General Zod with the story I have planned for Stormwatch, but I figured (and was right) that he'd already be taken for Superman anyway.

Name: Aaron Age: 22 What do you do?: College student working towards an education degree/Gamestop employee Hobbies and/or interests: exercising, running, reading, music, sports and video games (not much time for those nowadays though) How long have you been writing? Since high school Do you write anything non-fan fiction? I write papers for classes and journal entries <_< What are your main inspirations when writing? The characters in the stories or even house pets, seriously. When I say the characters, I think about story beats they haven't experienced, and what would happen to them. As for the house pets example, I remember for a college course I had a few semesters ago, we had to write about a normal thing, but present it as something monstrous, so I chose my mom's dog. He looks like a bear squatted down into a puppy sized body, and ALWAYS smiles, ALWAYS. I had a lot of fun writing about the reason he's always smiling. Would you like to write for a comic company? I think I would like to write for a comic company, but it's not the job I dream of, you know? Who is your favorite comic author? Novel author? Jack Kirby, dude had imagination out the you know what! Grant Morrison too, since I've enjoyed practically everything he's done, and the guy pisses off my comic snob friend. Dwayne Mcduffie and Robert L. Washington III (RIP) round out my fantastic four of comic book authors Novel authors, I'd have to say James Baldwin Who is your favorite comic characters? Marvel? DC? Other? Probably Static, but Grifter, Impulse and Spider-Man are ALL CLOSE seconds]] What is your favorite comic story? Marvel? DC? Other? idk man, too many to name. Really digging King City right now What moment in comic history most influenced you/made you a comic fan? The creation of Young Justice (MIGHTY ENDOWED) Why did you choose your character(s) to write? I am a big Grifter fan and I've always wanted to try my hand at writing him, so I signed up here >_>! What character that you did not claim would you like to try your hand at most? well i've claimed NOBODY yet, but I'd really like to get some of the WILDcats cast, like Spartan, Emp and Zealot. Slade Wilson too for like an issue

What do you do?: Corporate, Soul-Crushing Data-Entry with writing on the side. I would LIKE to write Fantasy Novels for a living, but that involves sitting down and actually writing. I'm hoping this site will be a kick in the pants for me.
Hobbies: The general geeky spectrum. Comics, movies, video games, books, roleplaying, shounen manga, the works.
How long have you been writing? About off and on since forever. I'm trying to actually train myself to sit down and focus on writing. So far I have a few shounen manga fanfics published online and I'm working on a couple potential fantasy novels, but I'm in that awkward stage between "first chapter and most of the setting/plot done" and "actually getting something substantial written."
Do you write anything non fan-fiction? Working on two potential fantasy novels that best-case-scenario I can one day publish and call myself legit. Gotta admit the fan-fiction is fun though.
What are your main inspirations when writing? I try to make my stories fun to read. Big, dark epics have their place and all, but my favorite works have all had that Joss Whedon level of humor to balance things out. But sometimes that all fails and I write something so horrific I require a cold shower once it's published.
Would you like to write for a comic company? Hard to say. On the one hand, while I'm not arrogant enough to say "I could do better than everyone," some comic storylines from modern times and even recent past make me cringe and want to rewrite the whole thing. On the other, I know that a lot of the stuff I find cringe-worthy is editorial mandate or one good writer trying to keep up with a bunch of past horrible plot points in the continuity and other writers using the same universe. I think I could do a good job, but it would mean dealing with a lot of other comic plots that would probably make me cry.
Who is your favorite comic author? Novel author? I don't read the actual comics as much as I should, but Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing was amazing. He took the steaming pile of crap that was Scott/Emma and made a wonderful story out of it. Novel authors would be Christopher Stasheff and Douglas Adams.
Favorite comic book characters? Why must you make me choose?!?! DC - Batman, Batman's Rogue's Gallery, Aquaman, Wonder Woman Marvel - Cyclops, Captain America, Iron Man, a sizable portion of the X-Men (but not Wolverine), the list goes on.
What is your favorite comic story? Definitely Whedon's Astonishing X-Men. There's probably some others I'd like, but it's hard to find good storylines in the sheer volume of continuities out there. I think Civil War and Avengers vs X-Men were good premises, but got bogged down by editorial mandate and turning what could have been a legitimate "Good VS Good" fight into "No really this one's good that one's evil."
What moment in comic history made you a fan? Honestly? The various cartoon series growing up. X-Men, Spider-Man, the DCAU, Teen Titans. Not to mention the movies. No matter how far removed they were from source material.
Why did you choose your character to write? I have a particular title in mind, but we'll see how the draft goes.

I brought in Nathan Drake because I thought it would be cool for a person who doesn't have super powers or insane skills try to survive the suicidal missions that are given. That, and I am planning to spin off an Uncharted title once the first volume is finished. I took Abstergo Industries because I thought they would make a good shadow organization antagonists for the Squad.
What character that you did not claim would you like to try your hand at most? Batman. Simply because it is Batman! And the fact he is the most familiar DC character to me.
I would also like to do Superman. I had some ideas for him.

Would you like to write for a comic company? Yes. Although it will take me a while to get used to everything. I won't ever be a comic book artist though. I simply suck at drawing! I've been reading various indie companies policies on submissions, mostly out of boredom, and they pretty much all require finished comics, meaning anybody who can draw is instantly in with a better shot than anybody who can't. The only exception seems to be 2000AD, which asks for a synopsis and 5 page script for a sci-fi story with a twist ending, and if it's good enough it gets published and you might get more work. I found that interesting, although not all that surprising.

I thought since I'm new that I should do this...
Name: Carl
Age: 15
What do you do?: Um...high-school? I do plan on getting a job this summer after I get my license.
Hobbies and/or interests: Football, Basketball, Baseball, Reading, Videogames, Women. I think that's all.
How long have you been writing?: Hm...well, I've written essays since 4th grade, but I'm sure that doesn't count. I started writing stories 4-ish years ago and I began to write fan fiction three years ago.
Do you write anything non-fanfiction?: Yes. I've begun to work on a sci-fi superhuman novel about two brothers. That's all the specifics I feel like getting into now.
What are your main inspirations when writing?: Um...me? No, not really. Well, maybe. I don't know. There is one particular thing Stan Lee says that really defines how I write: "Everybody wants to feel that you’re writing to a certain demographic because that’s good business, but I’ve never done that … I tried to write stories that would interest me. I’d say, what would I like to read?… I don’t think you can do your best work if you’re writing for somebody else, because you never know what that somebody else really thinks or wants." So, yeah. That right there.
Would you like to write for a comic company?: Sure. Not now, obviously, but maybe later once I get through college and all.
Who is your favorite comic author? Novel author?: Comics would have to be Stan Lee and Scott Snyder. Novels? J.K. Rowling, Rick Riordan, and some other author whose name I can't remember.
Who is your favorite comic character? Marvel? DC? Other?: DC- Tim Drake Marvel- Peter Parker, specifically Ultimate, but 616 is cool too Other- Um...Hellboy, maybe.
What is your favorite comic story? Marvel? DC? Other?: DC- ...I have no idea. Geoff Johns' run on TT? Scott Snyder's current Batman run? The entire Red Robin series? No clue. Marvel- Also no clue. I guess I'll go with Amazing Fantasy #15. Or all of Ultimate Spider-Man, to the date. Other- Not even going to try.
What moment in comic history most influenced you/made you a comic fan?: This is easy. The event that started it all for me: Civil War.
Why did you choose your character to write?: I've fallen in love with Shazam in the DCnU. That and all the others I wanted were taken. I, Vampire was a close second to Shazam, by the way.
What character that you didn't claim would you like to try your hand at the most?: Hm...someone obscure, probably, who would be a challenge to write. Someone I'd have to pull a "Geoff Johns" (at his best) on. I honestly have no clue. Maybe Orion, although he's pretty bad ass anyway. Aquaman would be fun, although he's also BA. I'm going to have to go with--as my final decision--the Ray. The character has so much potential, but is always used so crappily.
