Since Deadline notices and extension reminders are going up tomorrow, it is time to post this as you’ll likely notice a few titles are left off it.
A Word from the Admins
Unfortunately for us but great chance and fantastic opportunity for him, Buck’s life has entered a hectic period for the next few months where he has to work like crazy and will be busy off-net. You might have noticed a decreased presence from him already but he graciously kept up with his duties and looked out for the board as Wachter worked out his net issues. It sucks that this comes in the wake of MRP leaving the board and leaving us an admin down but that’s how life works.
Buck will be taking a step back (not leaving completely) from active admin work and does have to drop Batman and Hawkman as he feels he will not be able to devote enough time to either one at the moment. He is not leaving the board. He will still read and review (erratically like most of us). And he will still be considered an Admin. We all hope come this Fall/Winter season, he’ll be present in earnest.
Life happens to us all.
How does this affect the board?
The board will move on as it has for the past two years. We are not currently looking for new Admins but would appreciate anyone who wants to volunteer towards handling claims in the absence of others and doublechecking the MCL. If someone wants to handle the ACL, they can but the MCL take priority.
Batman and Hawkman will be reopened to claiming. Batman has the restriction of working/communicating with Wachter to fit into what he’s established with his work on Ultimate ‘Haven such as the Kane/Wayne family relation and the Bertinellis among others. The two had been working towards a cohesive Bat-mythos and sister-cities from the get go. The titles have already been interlocked in some ways.
Like with Superman the first time around, there will be no dropping of titles to claim either one. Co-writers are welcome. In the wake of MRP’s departure and Demon Knights’ completion, another title dropped is just not something we’re looking forward to. Especially with Hawkman and Action Comics never getting a chance to start either after two months.
There you have it.
Action Comics/Superman
The same stance as before applies now (for now too…) of retcon, reboot, or continuation. Mez’s work is archived after all (though some research would have to be done on the used characters front if you don’t start fresh). Since he’s worked in the Metropolis sandbox since the start, be sure to contact Jack to see what he’s done.
Also: Jackalope, as the main stable writer for Metropolis, has made the offer to co-write a Superman title. He has a few ideas for bits and pieces but not a lot so if you have a direction or would be up for some brainstorming, let him know. He IS okay with someone else just simply claiming the title.
Word Specifically From Wachter:
So that there are no feelings of backdoor dealings (especially after the reaction of the Batman exchange some months back) I am not claiming the Batman title the instant this topic goes up but I am eligible and I DO want it. And Buck did give me somewhat an advance warning of his writing departure as you can notice from me having to change up the order of my issues since we played in the same side of the sandbox together and were making the same sandcastle. I’m gonna be up front with that.
Taking Batman would make my life writing on the board a lot easier considering the mythos overlap already and part of the reason why Spoilers in the Old Universe suffered a few hiatuses was because I had to keep adjusting things to a new Nightwing writer since for most of the early site’s life, Gotham was off limits. My story would work better and flow easier if it was me managing it all… if I didn’t have to worry about Batman and Gotham and the fact I’m using Nightwing’s supporting cast or that I call Jason “Redbird”, the League of Assassins/Shadows association, etc… And it can only get better since I can specifically augment it with a companion title.
That said… I’m being considerate and waiting (not long) a bit before I claim. Whoever wants Batman has to PM me first anyways to know what Buck and I have done and is established within the pages of ‘Haven (and potentially our plans). If you really want the title, if you’re eligible for the title, if you’re passionate about it… I will be open to hearing people out. Might be open to a co-writer. Might even be convinced you’re stable enough for me to put my faith in.
I know this makes it seem like I’m deadset on claiming Batman but if I can rely on another writer to do it… Then that lets me expand my horizons and try a Cosmic attempt at Birds of Prey or go back to Demon Knights like I intended. If I don’t end up claiming Batman as a title, to make things simpler on all parties involved, I will claim Renee Montoya given her appearances in ‘Haven but am open to leasing her out.
