I am digging the story so far, looking forward to seeing how Dick and Slade play out moving forward. I'm keeping my eyes on the Gothamites and how they pan out, may be interested in a crossover later on.

I'm gonna be the voice of disent and say I like the colored text and loved the framing device for the first issue. The only problem I had was the colors needed more variety. Too many shades of the same color. But I thought the first issue was awesome and a very nice change from rather traditional issues.
The second was good too, if traditional. I enjoy he way you write Dick and the differences from the DCU. Nightwing is my favorite hero and your version is different, but I like it.
Gotta say though, the butt line from Kane in the first issue was groan inducing. Keep em coming.

Yeah... That was the double edged sword bit of using colored text. I tried to use colors that were representative of the characters speaking. Around issue 4 or 6, I'll finally reveal who all they were. Green and gold should be obvious. As is Slade's. And the black with gray highlights, I can't confirm or deny just yet. And I have a butt line from Kane? Edit: There it is... Like the Dick joke that had to be done in the comments here, his ass had to be referenced there. There's just some things that are unavoidable. And if you figured out who Candy Kane is, it's awkward for a reason. With critical thinking, one can find out who she is in BatB 5. "Little Elliot" in Spoilers 8. Which is a spoiler I'm not going to confirm until issue 10 or 13 of them. Depends on if it fits.

I've just read the first issue, but I liked it very much. I thought the use of colored dialogues was creative and I like that he is a dad and older than what I've read in the DCU. I look forward to issue #2 and future issues. Good job.

My one negative is the colored text. And I know you aren't the only one who does it. So, promise, I'm not picking on you for it. But, I HATE/LOATHE colored text for dialogue, thoughts bubbles, memories, etc. When is the last time any of us picked up a book and every characters speech was represented in a different color? Never. There was other ways to convey things like that with the written word. It doesn't take me out of the story completely, but it kicks me about halfway out the door just seeing it. coughdeadpoolcough Anyway, I really like this. Second best story on this site and might become better than Detective Comics to me. And no, the color does not bug me. Can't wait for the next issue.

It pleases me to read someone doesn't not like the colors (yes, that's a double negative.). And if you like this... Good news is that issue 3 is finally done but I'm currently sitting on it for a day to go back and read it with fresh eyes tonight or tomorrow. 4th issue should be relatively easy to write and up before the end of the month too providing Spoilers doesn't kill me. >_< only title that will since it's the end of an arc issue and I can't go with my new motto of over 3000 = bust.

Sweet, and I can't wait for Spoilers. All of your works are great. Sadly, they just can't beat MRP's Detective Comics, although Grayson might.

Well as my box on the side of the screen says... I am the Resident Teen Girl Drama Maker. Now with Grayson, I get to add Pre-teen Girl Drama and Women Drama.

Woohoo... After what doesn't seem like a five month wait (Thank you Chris for letting me keep the title), I present to you the Super Sized Grayson #3 detailing the origin of Deathstroke the Terminator and our fair President of the Ultimate States of America.
It's almost 7000 words. I could have easily broken it up into two issues. With some creativity and a bit of filler, I probably could have easily made it three parts. . . All to give the appearance that I was producing numerous issues to make up for my absence. But that's not how I wanted to do things.
This board deserved a whole story meant to be read as I intended. Not any tricks to make me look good. I owe that to you guys.
After this issue, we finally reach the meat of Ultimate Grayson and find out what the first Volume is about. Depending on lengths, you might even get a Blud, Sweat, and Tears back up feature similar to Gotham Central except focusing on Bludhaven cops.
...
On topic. #3 was a fun issue that I wanted to write even before 1 and 2. Gets into the nitty-gritty of the Guardian program. Delves into the backstory of Gordon, showing what exactly happened when he "went back" in JSA. Gives you some answers to unexplained questions in JSA 0.
And most importantly... It shows off President Jim Harper and the origins Miller and I decided to give him to play off his canon stories.
There are other things too that will pay off in the long run with coming Admin board-wide pitch involving certain aspects that we feel are too big for any single person to claim and help tie every thing together.
BIG FAT NOTICE
Can you find the Easter Egg in this issue? I'll give you a hint... It relates to President Harper's appearance in another series and his suggestion for yet another government project.

All hail the king of continuitity!
Excellent issue loved seeing Slade's background develope. I don't know if it was intentional or not but I laughed at the nearly lost his eye line. I hope that becomes a running gag.
All in all just promise no more hiatus' for Grayson.

Alright, so, to be honest I didn't like what I read of Brave and the Bold. I'm not sure why, which is why I never commented about it, but there was just something stopping me from enjoying the series. And that's the main reason I haven't gotten to reading Spoilers.
But, with that said and done, I just poured a cup of coffee and spent the last hour/hour in a half reading Grayson and I absolutely loved it. Slade is one of my favorite characters on the board and I cannot wait for more.
I plain on picking up on Spoilers next, but all in all, I give Grayson 10/10.

I hope that becomes a running gag. All in all just promise no more hiatus' for Grayson. I am indeed the King of Continuity. It's what I get paid to do and you guys get to appreciate me half-assing (at least most of the time) it here. As I told you over AIM, yup... The eye line was intentional. And I don't know if I'll ever reveal how Slade lost his eye or maybe I will go with his wife got it as part of the divorce. *shrug* Who knows. At the very least, it's not something that will be explored until Ulti Grayson hits Volume 2 and becomes Ultimate Nightwing. --- Alright... Instead of doing my usual preview (or rather what I did with issues 1 and 2), I've offered up a look at coming events in Grayson by giving you three of the House's fighters. I tried to make it done in universe as much as possible and it was inspired a bit by the info in the back of the Planet Hulk hardcover. Now for me to finish up Spoilers 10.

FANTASTIC! The only bad part here is that I want to read more about your Deathstroke than Grayson. I do think that Grayson is epic, but Slade is just so much cooler!

Just had the chance to finally read #3-I got interrupted the first two times I tried to sit down and read it this week.
I liked the issue. The worldbuilding aspects are excellent. Slade is very interesting-I haven't liked the character this much since the Wolfman-Perez days of Titans when he was introduced. Maris is great and I want to learn more. The metabrawl is intriguing.
Here's the problem though-Dick Grayson currently is the least interesting character in his own book. His story seems to be moving at a crawl. You said it yourself in the post announcing the issue-next issue (which will be #4) will get to the meat of his story...well why didn't we get any of the meat of his story in 1-3, it's his book after all. Dick's story just seems to crawl-not that what we have seen has been bad or uninteresting, but after 3 issues I still feel I have learned more about Dick off the page ion conversations with you than I have on the page, and for someone who hasn't had the conversations you and I have had, that might be incredibly frustrating. It's pacing of Bendis-like proportions, and while Bendis has some strengths as a writer, pacing is not one of them. I just think if more had been done with Dick's story and revealing it early one, the worldbuilding stuff would have more effect as we could see how it fits into the overall scheme of things with Dick and why it fits in THIS title, which is called Grayson. Right now, while it is excellent stuff, it feels like it is intruding on and dominating over Dick's story itself.
So I really look forward to more, I just hope its more about Mr. Grayson in future issues...
-M
PS To put it in perspective-what did we learn about Dick Grayson this issue that we didn't already know? Not about Gordon, not about Slade, but about Dick?

Most of that comes from the out of universe pacing and the fact we didn't see it for months. The first three issues were meant to be stand alone (despite the whole Pt 1, Pt 2 of issues 1 and 2). I can't help that the whole running this site by myself chased me away nor can I help that it's now turning a hobby I enjoy into dread again. 3 issues in five months is horrendous.
That said, you tried too hard for try to pick apart the "Dick is the least interesting character in his title." First issue gave you Grayson's origin. Second issue introduced you to present Grayson. Third Issue gives you the origin of Slade, a character that plays a major role in the comic. Three issues. You know what that establishes? This is not a Superhero comic. Not at all. That's the reason for the name Grayson, not Nightwing. Grayson had just as much a central part in the story of 3 as he did in 2 and probably more than he had in 1 as the listener.
What do you learn about Dick? Where is he now? I could have made an issue alone of the Dick scenes and guess what... without the Slade interludes, it'd have been boring. You see him actually training. You learn that he intends to go through with the idea that started to form in issue 2. You find out he's given up on the Force. You see that he is (and possibly has been) training his daughter already. He now has even more of a money issue since he's decided to go in a different direction in his life.
It's all there.
Issue 1: Where he came from.
Issue 2: Where he is.
Issue 3: Where he wants to go.
Yes the Deathstroke stuff overpowers it in "Deathstroke #?" but it's one issue. Dick was the central focus and in EVERY scene of the two before it. Do you think that Dick is just gonna go... "Gee... Yeah... Mr. Deathstroke, please I trust you and all. Take me to Meta-brawl." You gotta build the trust somehow. And Grayson still doesn't trust him but their "friendship" has reached a point where he's ready to wet his feet providing a gun is in his hand.

After reading the first three issues I'm still undecided about this title. When I think of Nightwing, I think more of a high-flying, superheroic, acrobatic master of the night. Batman lite essentially. I understand that you are building up to his Nightwing persona instead of jumping right into like many people would, I just lose a little bit.
The story is intriguing, and the writing is marvelous. Slade I think could hold his own title with ease, and I look forward to seeing more eye jokes.
That said, you set the atmosphere for issue #3 extremely well at the beginning and kept it pretty steady the whole way through. Good job! I give it a solid 8/10.

I get what MRP means, but at the end of the day the aim is to write something entertaining and engaging, and I found Slade's story to be that.
