So I caught up on this series a few weeks ago, just never got around to posting my thoughts (which is actually the case with a lot of things on here) so, if you ever come back to read this, here's my review of your seven issues of Hellblazer:
#1 is a brilliant starting point, it gives you a nice, self-contained narrative with an interesting, heart-felt twist that shows you who Constantine is and what he does. It's the kind of story I wish I could read more often.
#2-4 is a very good arc, I love the name as a play on Constantine's first appearance in Swamp Thing's American Gothic by Moore, and I thought that this story was a very refreshing, modern take on the Ultimate Con Man. I love seeing his very, very natural relationship with Kit. They are head-over-heels for each other but they don't hate each other's guts. Though the con at the end was predictable, I think it was a sort of necessary evil to show you why they call him the Ultimate Con Man. But my favorite part of this entire arc was the relationship with his father. It was very, very realistic in its stance that they have a strained relationship but, again, is natural in the fact that they don't hate each other. And, on top of that, when you don't actually show the scene with the father, I think it adds more emotion to it. We as readers don't know how it turned out, so we can imagine that it was heartfelt and touching, where, in reality, it may have been dramatic and damning.
#5 was a nice little story, I've never been a fan of Papa Midnight, but your Mister E was fantastically written and, if you were continuing the story, I'd love to see more of him. Definitely the weakest issue of your run, no offense, because it was still natural. Especially the way Kit and John play off each other. You're very, very good with natural, human dynamics which has been the funnest part of reading your works.
#6-7: A nice cap-off to your run, of course it isn't where you'd planned to stop, but it was definitely a nice ending. It really fleshes out John's past and supporting cast and delivers a very interesting new enemy in the Great Annihilator. I think this was the second strongest part of your run, because London Gothic has you beat. I hope that in future endeavors, you keep up the good work, especially the human interactions. Kudos for that.
I give this run an 8.79/10 as a whole. Love your work, keep it up.
