Queen Manor the chairs had been put away to be used again some other day and the house guests had settled into their rooms or the shared areas in general.
Brave Bow thought about the day and smiled. Mia would be save here, more then that she would be cherished. He looked in the living room, where John and Roy were watching a game and wondered where she was though.
John read his mind. “Mia said she wanted to make sure the forms were right. She and Thea are in her room.” The man said smiling at his searching look. “Have fun today?”
He laughed softly. “You have found a spirited family.” He said.
John nodded. “You’re part of it now to.” He replied with a grin, holding up his beer. “No getting away now.”
The older man smiled and walked up the stairs to the soft peach room. He knocked at the door softly. Mia was there a few seconds later with slightly red eyes. “Hey.” She said and smiled when she saw him. Thea was sitting on the bed with a half-played board game on the bed spread in front of her.
He opened his arms and she took the hug. “Are you alright, Little Wing?” She had been rubbing her eyes again. It was a habit she had picked after Sarah’s passing to stop herself from crying.
Thea got off the bed and walked over. “It’s my fault.” She said. “I mentioned Ollie and Di. We miss them.” She nodded and left the room to give them space.
“Call me back when you’re ready to start playing again.” She said as she walked out. Mia nodded after her.
“Didn’t Mrs. Queen leave you a gift?” He asked Mia and looked around the room. The new Mrs. Queen had him give a sizable bag to give her after they left to cheer her up.
Mia smiled. “It’s what Thea was talking about.” She pointed to her dresser.
It was a large collage picture frame with family written on it in several languages. The pictures themselves were from the day. This is what Dinah had run off to her office to do in the middle of the reception. There was a large shot of the entire wedding gathering, one of him and Mia alone, one of her, Thea and Roy. The one that likely set her off was the last. One of the three of them, Mia and her new guardians, with Dinah and Oliver holding her tightly and widely beaming.
“They love you very much, Little Wing.” He said, choking up while looking at it. She had found a real home, they seemed to dole out real affection without even having to think.
She walked over with a slight light in her eyes. “There was a note with it.” Mia said. “That she knew it would be a happy day when she found me but she never had any idea just how happy it would be. She wanted me to know that she and Oliver adored me. She also gave me this.” Mia held up her hand where a silver ring with a heart, hands and crown rested.
He looked at it for a moment. “It’s nice.” He said.
“She said it was an old Drake tradition.” He smiled at the sound of her giggle. “That our relatives would be cross if I didn’t have one. Then she gave me that.” She pointed to a small album on her side table with Sarah’s face on the cover.
He looked at it and she smiled sadly. “Copies of all the pictures she could find of Mom from the pictures her mother left her. I haven’t been able to look through it completely yet.”
He smiled sadly and nodded. He would have to make time to look at the book later. “In time.”
She smiled sadly herself. “There’s this quote in it about how the ones we love are never really gone from us.” Her voice broke, she was crying.
“For despite all death, the love remains. Even death cannot end all things.” Brave Bow said, completing the prose. “It’s true.”
She nodded and held on tight to him as the tears flowed out. He smiled, thankful she had regained the ability to cry at last.
