By now the whole of Star City has heard about the attack by the Royal Flush Gang at the SCPD fund raiser last Friday. To believe the current press the event has taken a far greater importance, being noted on a notional scale. This is the farthest west the gang has ever been known to be active, they are more well known in Bludhaven or Gotham.
On the night of the seventeenth Cissie and I were in attendance at the personal in in in invitation of Mrs. Queen. The benefit was the brain child of her husband when he found out just how difficult her childhood had been. In truth he feels responsible to some degree, due to his family's involvement.
After the Queen Bank Attack Robert and Moira Queen started a fund to help families of the fallen rebuild after the loss. While the fund helped a lot of people it didn't take into consideration families that needed longer term or larger assistance. Mrs. Lance and her young daughter needed it, but found ways to do without. These ways were not always kind, which still bothers the new husband. The new fund grants additional funds and recourses for children or in case of special needs, a welcome addition.
The night was just warm enough to be nice and as Mrs. Queen's first society appearance there was some pressure. However the turn out was highly encouraging, including several of the officers' families who have taken to seeing the family as one of their own. The early evening included game and treats for the kids, though as the night went on it became a more adult affaire.
It was at the climax of the evening, the announcement of the total funds raised, when the Gang attacked. Mrs. Queen and Miss Grant, we forget, come from the haven where the gang is quite common. They very quickly recognized their attackers and ushered the guests out.
It was at this point that Cissie and I hurried to the help outside, and the Queen's took shelter in a secure part of the house. According to the SCPD it took only a few members of Team Arrow to chase the gang away. After the scare they offered food, drink and their home to rest in while the guests found ways home. Many of the guests remained to get the tour, something that normally requires much more notice.
The house is getting a slew of security upgrades, and the family is reviewing safety protocols ahead of the yearly holiday galas. This year they are benefiting Welcome them home, a program that helps returning vets find jobs and support as they adjust to civilian life as well as the local food bank and the local animal shelters. It is just hoped the parties to come will be exciting for less scary reasons.
