I was thinking about how every year DC Comics has a special month for their comic books. They have had 0 issue month, Villains month, I'm not sure if they have had anything else but I thought about Ultimate DC Comics having a special month. I don't really know what the theme could be or if we would even do the same thing but my thought was have the event be called Ultimate 52 month. It could be in the same month as Free Comic Book Day. We could have special issues come out that month of our respective series or we could have the ability to make 10-15 claims that month as a special ability. Or maybe during Ultimate 52 month we start a series called Ultimate 52. The series would be a bunch of one shots of different unused characters. Every one could do a one shot and the series would just go for that month with different stories.
I think a celebration of sorts would be a cool thing to do for this site. It could be a recruitment tool for getting new a former readers/writers.
Thoughts?

They did Future's End Month where every issues + Booster Gold did stories that took place 5 Years into the future.
And if we do a Ultimate 52 series, I suggest that it should be optional for anyone who wants to claim the unused character to decide whether the Ultimate 52 story is canon or not.

I could certainly do an Outlaws, Aquaman or Batman story without stepping on too many toes. I'm in.

Although I don't think you should be able to claim more than five characters for a single month/issue.

- Having special issues would require authors to have something available that would constitute a "special issue," which could easily mean artificially adding extra work for our current writers. If you want to write something special for your issue, that's great. But I don't think it should be something expected of other writers, at least not without some significant planning.
- There are already plenty of ways to get extra claims, and I don't think there's any reason to arbitrarily allow that many extra claims outside of claiming a new title.
- I don't think we need to be writing stories of unused characters just to establish them. It removes options for other potential titles down the line. If you have ideas for other titles you can always claim a second title. There's no reason you can't do only several issues and then complete your title. If you don't think you have enough plot to get to six issues we can work something out, depending on the title and circumstances.

All the things I listed were just examples of stuff we could do. I just liked the idea of a celebration month to try and attract new readers/writers.

We could have Ultimate 52 Month/Day on the 52nd day of the year, February 21st. Or free comic book day or something along those lines. If it's entirely possible we could have the Ultimate Justice League debut during that time or something. I'm just shooting ideas out if anyone else has an idea let it rip. Or is this a bad idea?

Does anyone else find it awesome that the most users on the site was 52?

That little factoid brought me endless amusement to the point where I almost hope we don't ever get enough people to surpass it.
Maybe we can do something special for the site on May 2, if we can all agree on something and work it out. That's long enough away to plan ahead.

Annuals that depict a crossover between the current universe and the pre-reboot? Maybe even finally explain what caused the reboot in the first place?

Why does something have to have "happened" to the old universe for ours to have started? I've read most of the old titles, but I still don't know much about its overall continuity. Also, the majority of those titles are by writers that are no longer here, and personally, I wouldn't feel right trying to force a crossover with the archived stuff and what we're doing.
There's other stuff we can do though.

Just a thought. How about a swap of titles for a single issue. One shots that take place a bit forward or backward in time if necessary so they don't disrupt any current stories. Each writer could swap titles randomly and then have the heroes meet alternate reality versions of themselves, created by the guest writer.
So say someone takes over Superman and does a story where he meets another Superman where he was sent to Mars and raised by Green Martians and befriends J'onn.
Or to keep things a little tied together, have the event be an invasion from a universe of evil versions of the characters. Allowing everyone to world build a "World Gone Mad" together.

I like the title-switching idea better. My favorite idea, however, would be that we launch Justice League on that day in an over-sized issue with sections written from every active writer we can get. The main story could be written by, say, Dob (I think he was planning the first arc), but there could be half a dozen backups with Superman and Batman's first meeting prior to JL, what Hal's been up to over the past few months, or any crazy fun idea we can think of.

I was considering that, Drake. Admittedly it's on me, but I think I could get JL ready to start by that time.
Granted, real life has a way of delaying things, but I'm actually getting pretty close on both my DC titles.
Another idea I had, though this would mean a lot of extra work, is an Ultimate Countdown series starting 52 days beforehand, a daily series of 500-1000 words apiece (or have several days posted in one issue on a weekly basis or something similar). Mostly character pieces, universe building stuff, but possibly building up towards something later if/when JL comes to fruition.

I am 100% on board with the Justice League debuting it's first issue on Ultimate 52 Day.

Then we need to pull together, there's work to be done. DOB is still the only moderator this place has until Miller decides to grace us with his presence again.

Not counting today, we have 42 days until Ultimate 52 Day!!!! What's the word on Justice League? Is it In the process of being written? Are we all writing backups to the story? What is the plan for other writers on this day?
Since Catman and his crew probably wouldn't be involved in the Justice League I was thinking about having an Earth 3 version of Catman appear in my book. Evil Catman!
