Ultimate Shield # 4 - Time to be a hero, part four
"What the hell was that?!" Screamed Jay at no one in particular.
They had attacked the Haza's group base head on, a decision that was quickly coming back to haunt them. After Jay had reported that the base was too heavily guarded to attempt any sort of espionage, both he and Fire had decided on an all out attack. The quicker they hit the less likely the enemy would be ready, regardless of the meta-human presence, and that plan had been working fine up until a a few minutes ago.
"No idea but with how easily it took out Shield, we'd better keep on our toes." Replied Silver, concern for her friend laced in her voice.
The four left standing kept watch of all directions while heading towards each other. The warehouse they currently occupied was a bloody mess, the Haza terrorists dismembered bodies lying all around them. Some still conscious as their blood gushed from their wounds, a state of euphoria setting in. Carefully minding her steps, Silver couldn't help but sneak the occasional glance over to the pile of rubble, that had once been a wall that separated this battle from the world outside.
Can't risk checking on him, that thing is waiting for one of us to stray. Please be okay Joseph.
"Any ideas Fire?" Asked Jay.
"I've got one but it'll put Shield at risk."
"I'm all ears! For all we know he's dead and I'd rather only have one than four, he knew the risks. What's the plan?" Firmly replied Jay.
"If Silver can shield us with her magic while Ice freezes the room, it should stop this thing in it's tracks. We just got to hope this isn't some sort of high level speedster we're dealing with."
"Silver! You get that?" Shouted Jay.
"Yes, sir!" Was the response as she quickly made a force field around everyone but Ice.
Seeing her queue Ice flung out her arms and blasted in all directions with a sweeping motion. The room almost, in the blink of an eye, became a super sized freezer. Exhausted from the battle in general, Ice let down her guard for a moment after expelling so much power. Only to be brought back to reality as she heard the sound of her friend Fire telling her to watch out.
"Shit!"
Silver dropped the force field as Jay ran towards Ice, knowing full well he would never make it, as he raised his M4B1 rifle (a beam variation on the standard M4A1 model) and let loose a a couple of shots. He never intended to hit the thing with them but hoped it would make it back off, just long enough for Ice to react.
Unfortunately for Jay this wasn't the case as Ice, and numerous frozen Haza members bodies, came hurtling towards him, the impact causing him to drop his gun as he joined her in slamming into the wall five metres behind them. Silver and Fire had dived out of the way as the two came flying by them, Fire quickly reacted and fired a torrent of flames towards the direction of the attacker as Silver ran over to check on Jay and Ice.

"We're gonna play today, cause it's you're day off, isn't it daddy?" asked a young Joseph, his eyes wide with anticipation for the answer.
"That's right. But we'll have lunch first, okay?"
"Okay daddy."
Quickly taking his place at the dining table in the kitchen, Joseph sat impatiently. His mother was busy at the stove preparing their usual lunch of ham and cheese toasties. As she finished his father walked in, carrying a newspaper under his arm, much to his wives disapproval.
"Honey, do you need to read at the table? Can't it wait till later?"
Asked Olivia, almost pleading with her husband.
Robert sat down without answering, letting the question linger. Young Joseph sat there oblivious to the change in the atmosphere, busy planning out today's activities with his dad.
"Fine." Grumbled Robert, as he tossed the paper over to the nearby counter.
Olivia went back to plating up the food as Robert looked out the window.
"Here you go!" Said Olivia, as she handed out the plates before taking a seat of her own.
"Thanks mum." Replied Joseph, his mouth full with his first bite.

Shield awoke to a constant thumping in his head and the sound of a fight happening nearby.
What the hell....Where.....Fuck!
Remembering the situation Shield quickly opened his eyes only to be greeted with darkness. Moving his limbs to check for damage, Shield quickly realized he was trapped under a pile of wet rubble, since as he moved he could feel rocks of various sizes all around him and for some strange reason they were all moist.
That's right. I got hit by something but I'm sure we're in Gaza.....
A woman's scream interrupted his thoughts, a woman he knew well.
"Laura!" Shouted Shield, as he rebooted his super suit and blew the rubble to pieces, effectively freeing himself.
Looking ahead of him, Shield saw the familiar sight of the battle torn warehouse, although now it was partly frozen and covered in water. To his left he could see Silver lying unconscious, her face bloodied and her armour cracked all over, and further left he could see Fire firing flames at some unknown target, who appeared to be barely fazed by the heat of the blasts. Without hesitation Shield flew towards Fire's foe, firing a barrage of energy blasts from his fists as he did. Clearly intrigued as to who was shooting at him the enemy turned away from Fire, who was still firing upon him.
"I thought I dealt with you?" Cooly stated the man.
"Guess you were wrong!!" Replied Shield with gusto, as his right fist hit the mysterious stranger, squarely in the face.
The force of the punch caused a shockwave, causing the warehouse to crumble around them further and water to fly up into the air before coming down with a splash, Fire being blowing back slightly by the force. However the man stood his ground, unscathed. His tattered grey trousers, the only clothes he seemed to be wearing, and his long blonde hair fluttering as they would in a heavy wind. Time seemed to stop for Shield as his mind tried to comprehend what had just happened, his fist still clenched and embedded in the mans face, luckily his army training kicked in bringing him back to the situation.
"What the fuck are you!" Screamed Shield, his left hand filling with energy, as he swung it towards the man.
"Better than you." Smirked the stranger.
As he finished Shields left hand, brimming with energy, collided with the mans face, resulting in an small explosion which engulfed both Shield and the stranger, knocking Fire, who had been catching her breathe, out the warehouse through a hole in the wall. As the dust settled Shield could be seen on his knees, exhausted, the man remained standing, his right cheek slightly reddened.
"Who'd have thought a mouse could roar so loudly." Stated the stranger, as he began to walk towards Shield. "I think I'll be taking that suit of yours, I'm sure my bosses could put it to good use."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Near the city of Gaza a red ring flew through the sky, on a quest to find one who would wield it in the name of rage. It scanned, again and again as it traveled, suddenly the ring felt a strange pull. It's original objective fading as this new power took over.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Holding Shield up by the neck the man grabbed his chest, his fingers tearing through his armour right into his skin, causing Shield to let out a painful cry.
"This'll only hurt for a second." Joked the man.
Tightening his grip, causing Shield to wince, the stranger got ready to pull. Suddenly, Shield let out a blood curdling scream, his suit turning stark white.
"Aaahhhh!! It burnnsss! Suit, emergency shutdown!!" Shouted Shield through the pain, unsure whether the suit was malfunctioning or if it was just the stranger inflicting more pain.
The man quickly released his grip, causing Shield to fall to the ground, the tips of his fingers nothing more than bone, a look of shock on his face.
I see. A defense system to prevent theft, perhaps? Wondered the man, switching between watching Shield and inspecting his hand. Regardless I'm off. This base and our meta-human plans have been comprimised.
Using his super speed the man quickly disappeared off into the distance. Shield didn't notice however, his attention taken by the pain searing through his body. Steam had begun to form around him as the heat generated by his suit continued to rise, the water and ice evaporating while the ground around him melted.
Feels like the suits burning into my flesh! What the hells happening?! Am I going to die? Not now, please.....
The various materials that made up his suit began to break down into molecules and then further so into atoms, leaving Shield naked, his skin glowing an unnatural hue of white as the pain began to subside. Attracted to the event taking place the red ring flew into the warehouse, busting through one of the only hole free walls. It stopped near Shield, as if weighing up it's options, before charging into the fog surrounding him. A few seconds later a bright red flash blasted the steam away and renewed the screams of Shield as the burning sensation he felt dissipating returned in earnest.
