ULTIMATE HAWKMAN

St. Roche

Carter Hall stared at the huge creature as it stood yards away. It seemed like something from a science fiction movie as the ground seemed to crack where it walked with each step forward . The force and strength it had as it hurled police cars and objects with no effort shocked him as he watched.

"GIVE ME THE ANTI-LIFE. I HAVE TRACKED IT HERE. YOUR SUFFERING WON'T BE LONG IF I GET IT !" the huge creature yelled.

Could it mean the Nth metal ? Its what attracted the Thanagarian's to Earth with the signal. Did I attract this creature to Earth the same way ?

Carter managed to move quick as he to shield Shiera Saunders from the debris of a smashed building as the creature smashed it. She herself stared in shock and horror at what she too was witnessing .

She then saw that Carter Hall didn't seem so worried as he walked ahead to his apartment. Her following behind him quickly .

"Where are you going Carter ?" she asked.

"I-I'll explain later , just go home OK." Carter answered walking ahead faster.

Instead Shiera followed behind him walking. Not letting him out of her sight for now. Inside his home she barged in as he removed his shirt and tie. Carter knew she was there but he didn't have time to argue as he started to change.

"What are you doing ? A big creature is smashing the city and your changing your clothes ?" Shiera asked .

"Shiera , there are things you will not understand." he started while in his room locking his harness into place , "I don't have time to get you up to speed Chay-Ara . A war is coming. I was told of this by a man in a chair. A war is coming."

Carter slowly pulled his mace into his belt to carry it. He strapped 2 army handguns and carriers over each side. Walking out finally carrying his helmet in hand.

"C-Chay-Ara ...you called me Chay-Ara ?" she asked stunned.

"Yes I did. I am Prince Khufu. I like you have lived thousands of years. Every life time we meet . You have to remember at some point and I don't have time to sit and go over it all now with you." he said putting his helmet on.

She stood , stunned as he hugged her . Then as a loud explosion rocked the streets , Carter Hall walked over to the window. With a look he was gone as Shiera stood there mind racing as she watched him fly into the distance to face this creature.

On the streets.

Detective Hardrow stood behind cars as he tried to keep the streets empty. Police were firing on this huge creature with no effect to try and drive it back. But the ground seemed to crack with each step forward it took.

"Sir , the mayor is calling in the national guard." one young patrol man said loudly.

"Good , were barely even making him laugh at us at this rate. Maybe we can get something to dent him." Hardrow replied .

"Were getting people to leave the neighborhoods down Jefferson . How far do you want us to go , sir ?" asked the patrolman .

A car went flying as Hardrow pulled the young kid down as it slammed into a diner with an explosion. He answered , "Maybe the entire city at this rate if there is one left."

Feet away....

Kalibak stood and with no effort stepped on someone as it was a squish sound. Which made him laugh as he picked one up and with no effort made them pop in his hand . Realizing his power over these small little creatures.

Coming in fast with his mace leading him like a missile was Carter Hall. Kalibak turned his head to look at this approaching figure and before he could blink , he was slammed into , knocking him to his knees with some force.

The people cheered at this sight as Kalibak growled "YOU...THINK YOU ARE A MATCH FOR A GOD !!"

Carter had no clue what this creature would do next as it pulled the ground up with no effort and tossed a section of highway at him. With no way to move he was knocked across into an empty building .

Kalibak stood and saw where this bird like man had went into the building. Smashing his hand inside the building as Carter saw it coming and flew out quick. He landed outside on the ground as Kalibak never saw him there while he looked inside the building.

"Does anyone have a rocket launcher or something to knock over that building ?" Carter asked .

By this point The National Guard had arrived as Hawkman saw them unloading the heavy artillery and a tank rolled up. He flew over quick to them.

"I need you to fire on that empty building now ! Knock it over on him !" Carter yelled.

The person in the tank listened and started firing as the building went flying onto Kalibak. Burying him under all the rubble there. Seconds passed and people started to cheer as Carter watched , gripping his mace.

"We won , why aren't ya cheering Hawkman ?" the one National Guardsman asked.

As the rubble moved and slowly Kalibak started to stand growling in anger , Carter went to the air and answered , "Because its never that easy. You better call in the Army."

Kalibak got to his knees as Carter came in and upper cut him hard into the face several times. Kalibak stumbled some but laughed taking his hand and smashing him into the ground hard.

Carter felt every ounce of that pain as he tried to stand. Kalibak brought his foot down repeatedly smashing him into the ground. The ground gave way after the 2nd or 3rd smash as Carter fell into the sewer. Body beaten and bloody.

He's too much. I'm losing to him. Whatever he is , he's way out of my league. What hope do I have ?

Carter Hall removed his helmet and tried to breath. The screams and explosions above echoed in his head. Then his mind flashed to images of Shiera Saunders. To her and his past lives.

I can not fail you Shiera. If you die , I will never be able to forgive myself. I will not fail you .


Kalibak at this point was walking on destroying whatever was in his path. The tanks fired and he laughed knocking them away. The City was mostly on fire and ruins as he walked further.

Carter flew up behind Kalibak. His face bleeding as he kicked up some sewer lid. Using the strength from the Nth metal he twirled and threw it like some discus . The metal lid was like a small missile as it hit the back of Kalibak's ankle knocking him forward into the ground.

"YOU ANNOY ME GNAT !" the giant creature growled .

Carter walked over and saw the jeep with heavy gun mounted that the National Guard used. He unhooked it and used his strength to hold it and flung the straps of bullets over his arms.

"Welcome to Earth you bastard." he said opening fire on Kalibak. Aiming for his face as the creature slowly growled trying to cover his face from the bullets.

Eventually he grabbed the smaller man firing on him and held him into the air. Gripping him hard.

"I SHALL ENJOY CRUSHING THE LIFE FORCE FROM YOU !"

St.Roche Maximum Security Prison

The prison in St.Roche was being evacuated out due to the chaos in the city with this creature attacking. Explosions and gun fire filled the air as Anton Lamont stared ahead in his shackles. The group was being led to buses to be driven to New Orleans and the prison there.

Lamont however had other ideas. He was busy working on the pen and needle he had taken from Hardrow weeks earlier when he visited . Lamont had fixed it into a nice lock pick and slowly undid his cuffs with some effort.

"Bull , turn around slowly and hand me your hands." he whispered walking.

"What are you doing Boss ?" the big henchman asked .

"Just listen to me and be quiet for once." he commanded.

Lamont undid his cuffs using the new created lock pick as well. They kept walking acting like they were cuffed. To the bus and on as a guard stood by the driver . Lamont knew the next part was tricky.

"Bull , we need that man as a hostage. I can not stress enough he needs to be kept alive. Disarm him , but he must not be hurt." Lamont whispered.

The guard never expected the punch and the driver was quickly pushed down by Lamont as he pulled his weapon. They now had 2 hostages as the prisoners on the bus erupted into cheers .

With the loud explosions and battle , no one noticed this which impressed Lamont. He had thought people would notice him and Bull taking 2 guards hostage and a bus. But the battle and explosions in the main part of the city had them all focused away.

"You will drive and be calm. If you perform well , you will both go home to your families." Lamont said .

The driver nodded and slowly started the bus as Bull sit down and kept the gun on the guard in the front seat. Lamont and Bull acted to sit with the prisoners behind the cage on the bus as it rolled on ahead.

Back in the middle of the city.


Carter Hall had been grabbed and held by this huge creature that seemed to hold him tight in his hand. He tried tapping into the Nth metal to stop this thing from squeezing him. From basically popping him like some zit or melon.

"YOU CAN NOT DEFEAT A GOD , HUMAN !" it laughed.

I'm trying to use all the strength I can get from the Nth metal. But his grip is too much. Can't hold on much longer...

As Carter started to black out from the pain , something seemed to slash the back of Kalibak's tendon's where his ankle's were. He collapsed and howled in pain at this as his grip on Carter Hall slipped and he fell to the ground in a heap along with him.

Carter in pain tried to stand. But his body needed seconds to heal . A female hand helped slowly pull him up as he looked on in amazement.

"It looked like you were losing." Sheira said dressed in the same harness and mask that came with Carter's outfit.

Ultimate Hawkman #18 : : "The Herald" pt. 3 . Its the bigger than average conclusion to the biggest , toughest battle in Hawkman's career. How did Shiera Saunders get here so quick ? Will the couple survive this battle with the New God , Kalibak ?
