Since I had fun posting my plot plans for Green Arrow and Hawkman , I guess I'll go full board. I will unveil ideas I had plot wise for Batman and Shadow. I'll start with Shadow.
**********************************************
Last fall I was on the board and saw some discussing what we do about Batman. The problem was for a lot of us Batman was always a key character and one that was a master strategist . If anyone remembers he was 200 years in the future and a vampire.
Also he was like 300+ years old by this point.
I decided that well ...we need a fill in. A stand in if you wanna say. So I being a DC fan of old history knew Batman always idolized the Shadow (Pre-Crisis) and had actually met him in the Batman title (253 and 259 for you guys who wanna pick it up)
Now I knew the Shadow needed a big push and needed to showcase that he was a loner and that he had been a big part of the past we were building in this UDCU World. I was gonna tie him into the Justice Society who went off to fight Vietnam . The Shadow however is such a loner and has never revealed his identity and considered an urban legend that he doesn't show up where the JSA get ordered to Vietnam.
Shadow's origin mirrored the old Batman one. Instead of parents gunned down in Crime Alley , Shadow has to watch his fiancee get brutalized by a gang and killed. It changes the man named as Kent Allred who travels the world then learning to fight and becoming the man known as THE SHADOW.
I also decided that Kent needed a teacher ...one to teach him how to become the SHADOW at the end. So I picked I-Ching. The character of I-Ching shockingly was never claimed by anyone so I decided to use him.
Back to the JSA. Miller had did the origin where the President ordered them to Vietnam. I fleshed more out and showed the angry reaction of Ted at that. I also showed these men needed to find the Shadow in Gotham and tell him what was happening.
The Shadow however didn't care. He only cared about protecting Gotham and justice he dished out. This made him split for a time with the JSA. Who really couldn't make the Shadow follow them at all .
#2 and #3 of this was the saddest thing I ever wrote. It didn't help for influence to have "My Immortal" playing in the background. Years flash by and Shadow is getting older. He was 22 when he started and was in his 30's by this point and his body was feeling the war he was raging.
By the late 1970's , Shadow would meet the woman who changed things for him and became his partner. He met the 1st Black Canary. Diana Lance was a beautiful 18 year old who the JSA recruited and felt an attraction to the loner Kent. Who had piercing blue eyes. Kent would learn...I-Ching taught her as well.
The 2 became partners after it with her helping him become less a loner. Eventually after saving her from some kind of chemical gas in an adventure she and him become a couple. Its all good til 1984 when Diana reveals to Kent ... she's pregnant.
By this point Kent is in his 40's and Diana tells him she wants him to retire. That he's done enough for Gotham and if they are gonna raise their kid , she wants him not to do this. Kent however tells her of his vow and she realizes he will never quit. He will die being the Shadow.
She leaves him because she couldn't tell her daughter one day her dad died like that. Kent visits Ted Knight at the JSA HQ and hands him a letter to keep in case... "I don't...come back."
I made Ted the closest friend in a sense the Shadow had. I also was gonna drop a plot point that the Shadow helped Ted develope the HQ for the JSA. Ted doesn't believe he will ever need to use the letter.
Months pass and the Shadow has to save the Gotham S.T.A.R labs who open a portal to another dimension and a monster seemingly is trying to come out. The Shadow arrives and fights the monster and gives his life it seems by having them close the portal with him inside.
Diana gets called to the JSA HQ weeks later as Ted shows her the video tape of what happened. Which breaks her heart as she knew he was gonna never stop and he gave his life saving more people . The letter its revealed is a will and he leaves all his wealth and possessions to Diana. He also requests the JSA forget his existed and erase all evidence he ever did to protect his daughter. Ted does this for him .
#4 was the happiest one I ever did. Because the Shadow was coming back to present day. 26 years later the S.T.A.R labs try and redo the experiment with dimensions and out comes the Shadow who is still fighting said monster. He ends up closing the portal on the creature.
Once free the Shadow learns his entire body is consumed with chronal energy and has reset his age back and made his body stronger and he can't feel much pain. The doctor runs a test and reveals he's in his 20's again.
The big part is that Shadow learns 26 years has passed. He realizes he missed nearly all his daughter's life growing up and finds out where Diana has moved to (Chicago). Its there she has a reunion with him which stuns her. He wants to be with her but she realizes ...he's a young man now and can't. They had their chance then and he deserves a chance at life with someone.
I never had him meet Dinah yet. That was gonna happen in Green Arrow down the line. The Shadow would learn that his daughter is seeing another hero and pays him a visit where he tells him to take care of her. (Green Arrow)
The final part sees the Shadow visit the present day JSA. He expects to see Ted but learns he passed. Jack Knight is stunned at seeing this man return after so long . At the end of #4 , the Shadow realizes he needs people around him and opens himself up more by rejoining the Justice Society and removes his scarf and hat ...revealing his face to them fully and holds a meeting with the JSA.
I had hoped the Shadow would become a nice part of C Miller's JSA. Where his storyline was ... he had a 2nd chance at life now. And he better not waste it and he better accept having friends around him. The Shadow would still be obsessed with justice of course and his vow , but now he was gonna realize he needed people.
That was the Shadow mini-series.

Batman
Months later , right when I did Shadow 1 (and removed it) Batman became clear. Remember he was a vampire 200 years ahead right. Well now the decision was made he was gonna be in the UDCU fully and the vampire arc was gonna end.
I will say this ... I liked some of the vampire Batman. A lot of the old west stuff clicked with me. So I didn't wanna lose what the writer had done and worked up a pitch to keep it . I also plotted out 2-3 arcs. (my stance was , bring Batman back , set up his 1st rogue and more ...then hand him off to someone here at UDCU to write who needed a title)
1st was resolving the plots of Batman in the past and future. I decided to use Prof. Nichols here. Nichols was in Batman 700 for you fans. So in this I wrote that Ra's Al Gul had seemingly trapped the Dark Knight in a machine that Nichol's made and sent his essence to different time periods.
Ra's wanted Bruce to realize what making dark decisions meant and darkness was in all humanity. I believe I also made a Pirate Batman plot too where Bruce was an evil pirate too (maybe not...its been so long).
Of course Bruce started to wake from this. Realizing that people and places was repeating in these era's. His mind was telling him its not right. That he isn't a vampire. Nichol's claims that Batman is rebeling against the machine and he can't stop it.
The machine explodes as Bruce is finally free. His mind and body fully back to the present day. I of course wanted the line "I am the darkness.....I am the Night....I ..AM...BATMAN."
Bruce and Ra's fight as the entire place is going down in flames. Ra's escapes with Talia's help and Bruce watches and wonders how his darkness inside could have made him react in ways he did in the machine and time periods.
I thought ...this resolves the plot that the previous writer laid down and actually keeps it in UDCU continiuty . I also wanted to keep the original numbering and go from there as a sign it all happened.
My next arc would have been the debut of Catwoman , Selina Kyle. My idea for her was ...she was a beautiful black European cat burgler who had stolen rare objects all over the globe and in Europe at last check. She also as Selina gets a job working for Bruce Wayne to case him for stealing.
I modeled Selina after Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones , Doctor Who) . Who I thought is very beautiful and has that great accent. My plot with Selina was she was taken by Bruce and knew there was more to him and was trying to figure it out. Holly was gonna be her room mate and friend who helped her steal and was pushing for her to just rob Bruce Wayne and get rid of her new crush.
My 2 arcs was gonna see the debut of the Calender Man as well. I was gonna resolve the Catwoman plot by having her battle Batman and the 2 find out who each other is by the end of the 2nd arc.
Then I was gonna hand the title off to someone at UDCU .
That is the plots for Shadow Mini-series and Batman proposal I was doing. (The Catwoman stuff I never did put in the original proposal ...but it was a plot I was gonna do.)
