The MLC doesn't reflect that I dropped Shining Knight and Enchantress. Also, does the colored names refer to people I've used so far? If so, there's a couple errors.

Can I get a "Secret Files" sub-board?

Just plain old secret files or something connected to the title with an appropriate subtitle?

Just Secret Files. Too lazy to be creative.

When is "This Month in the UDCU" gonna be updated?

It has semi-been dropped because no matter how many times we asked you guys for aid, no one offered it and the administration is not going to read everything while expecting to do work for it. Sometimes we do like to enjoy what we read. Or read for no other reason than to read and offer opinion.

I would have no problem submitting my own, but you said you would prefer we don't.

First of all, thanks for the Secret Files page. Secondly, I would also be willing to give my plot summary if you'd allow it.

I would have no problem submitting my own, but you said you would prefer we don't. And is it so difficult to pick one series out of all we have and say, "I'll take this one?" That's what we were doing. It's not an attack on you, Star, but we didn't want you (guys in general) to do your own because you can control the content of the summary. We didn't want to force you to have to point out your own hints or worse, purposely avoid summarizing certain parts. The "This Month On..." asked for an objective view that could have let the key/interesting points as seen by others and if they missed something you dropped, then you could smile and do an evil laugh or if its something you didn't want missed, you could try to figure out what you did wrong. There's also the issue of when people summarize their own things, they tend to give more than is honestly needed. Plus, "This Month On..." was more about the excitement of the month and what points were hit. Not a summary. It was partly a test-for continuity and to help you guys keep up to date since this universe starts from the shared universe assumption, partly MRP trying something out. In the end, "This Month On..." has run its course with most of the titles being at 3 issues or more point. The lack of feedback and the fact it "failed" to get you guys to want to contribute more than your own stuff showed that the venture was good while it lasted but ultimately not worth the effort on the part of MRP and me. Instead, we are going to resort to summaries and asking you to do your own things for the continuity board after you finish arcs or hit a certain amount of issues.

Since I started the This Month in the UDCU thread, I am going to explain what my rationale was-yes it was partly for the writers/members to build excitement and see the world as a shared sandbox, but it was also my though to make the series more accessible to those 90-200 guests we have logging in each day, easier to find things that interest them to read without having to wade through every series in hopes of getting more people to read our stuff and potentially join the site. Giving people an entry point.
It was meant to be a companion or counter to the solicitations. If you are writing the solictations for your book and what to expect, a different voice should be providing the post script after having read the issue for a number of reasons-one (as wachter pointed out) to see how well you accomplished your goals for the issue and how readable your issue is to an objective set of eyes, and two-to give someone scanning through to see what they might want to read an alternate voice to the solicitations to determine if a series might interest them. If the solicitations and the This month in are the same voice saying essentially the same thing-what's the point of having both?
The attempt of the thread was as much about trying to expand readership as it was about providing grist for continuity in my mind. The reason many of us write for this site is to put stuff out there for others to read and react to. We can all write alone in a vacuum much easier, but we want people to read and react to our stuff. This month is... was an attempt to make the series and the titles more accessible for newcomers to the site, so that if they wanted to sample a series or an issue that seemed interesting tot hem, they could start with Demon Knights #4 if that is what caught their eye and have a way to be brought up to date on Demon Knights 103 without reading them first. Hopefully they liked DK #4 enough they went back and read 1-3, but maybe it was a character first appearing in #4 that is what drew them to the book and made them want to give it a try and they didn't want to read 3 issues without that character first.
As Star has pointed out, I tend to be overambitious, but a site like ours has a lot of attrition and I was trying to come up with things that could help the site grow over time rather than shrink, or at least draw new people in to counter the loss of others.
I also wanted to facilitate discussion of the books to get writers more feedback, not just create something where they had to keep saying the same thing over again about stuff they already had written. Having readers provide the summary is a way of getting a type of feedback for the writer, rather than yet again writing in a vacuum.
It didn't catch on, simple as that. wachter and I ended up splititng the duties for most of the first month, but then real life kicked wachter's tail for a bit and I was doing the bulk of the summaries after that-buck managed to contribute a few despite the real life issues he was facing, but I was doing almost all of it and it made reading the books a chore. It was work not enjoyment. And you may have noticed my reading and commenting fell way behind and has not recovered yet-I try to put a lot of effort into my reading and comments on books here, to provide constructive feedback for writers, but with reading then doing the this month synopsis and then doing my comments, it honesty became a slog and too much for me, which is why the This Month thread stopped getting updated. And I still haven't really gotten my mojo back to have the motivation to catch up on reading issues folks have posted, and for that I apologize, but it is what it is.
So as wachter said, for my part This Month in has run its course and is done. If someone wants to try to start something to take its place, more power to you, go for it, but its not going to be an admin feature.

I appreciate you guys laying it out for us. I think if in the beginning you had explained all this, it might have been easier. My issue is that I almost exclusively read other issues on my phone at work on lunch, and I'm not about to type out summaries on my phone. But if I had been aware of the reasoning and such before I could have stepped it up.
I think we have a great community here. Wachter asked for help with the continuity and lots of people contributed. I know you did ask for others to submit summaries before, but it was in a no related thread and, at least for me, some may not have considered the reasoning behind it.

I hadn't. If I had, I would have contributed earlier. I was too nervous of getting the summaries for the issues wrong to help before.

It's been so long that I can't recall what was said in the beginning. I know that's how we explained it in Admin. Something probably got lost in the transition. I'll consider your guys words before we officially declare "this month on..." dead. Part of the current problem is that it is behind and some series are waaaaaaaaaay behind. And you guys taking up the call, it does make things more of a chore for you than something we want to be fun.
Plus, I'll still be asking for summaries and continuity time points. =P So double the work.
