Ultimate Supergirl #6
Jax-Ur Pt. 3
Jax-Ur Pt. 3
"Leave us be!" Jivan Shi roared up at the green plasma monster which towered down over her, clutching her shotgun in her hands. Next to her Sleeze projected light purple light from the palms of his scaly hands trying unsuccessfully to repel the towering beast. With Krypto by my side I curved down in an arc around Smallville and shot my heat vision at Chemo in an attempt to damage its outer layer. I landed on the ground and stopped firing, realizing it had done nothing. Chemo had blasted the towns tavern with acidic slime, melting the roof down like it was nothing.
"Kara, what is this thing!" Jivan Shi yelled while firing her shotgun in a futile attempt harm Chemo.
"Jax-Ur, that guy who came past earlier, he made it," I replied while bounding forward to get between Jivan Shi and Chemo. "Stay put Krypto," I ordered to my pet before raising my arms up and moving in front of Jivan, shielding her.
"And he seemed so nice," Jivan muttered while throwing down her shotgun and reaching for her wolfs head shaped pendent. Before she could grab the piece of jewellery Chemo swung down and punched Jivan off her feet, sending her flying across the centre of town like a discus.
"Jivan!" Sleeze called while running away to check on her, forcing me to handle Chemo on my own. It fired bursts of acid from the palms of its hands, forcing me to fly up into the air to avoid it. The small drops of plasma which hit me burnt my skin like nothing else on Earth had been able to, forcing me to keep dodging the blasts. After a few seconds I realized that Chemo was trying to keep me away from him where I couldn't fight back. In response I swooped back down low, skimming over the ground and flying towards Chemo. Before I reached Chemo one of the creatures heavy fists came flying down and punched me in the back, slamming me face down into the dirt.
"You should let this happen, Kara" Jax's voice boomed from Chemo as the titan picked me up by my cape. "It's for the best". With one hand Chemo held me and with the other punched me over and over while I hung there defenceless. "Why do you stand amongst these barbarians like they are your equals, Kara?"
"SHUT UP YOU PSYCHO!" I screamed out while taking off again, ripping my cape from Chemo's grasp and sending a torrent of my ice breath down to freeze his blast of acid in mid-air. From above I analysed Chemo: Metal tubing ran up connecting the limbs, head and body to each other. I wasn't sure if it was transferring information or the strange goo inside of Chemo, and due to being lined with what must have been lead my x-ray vision didn't help, but either way I could tell it was vital to making Chemo work.
I could see the citizens of Smallville cowering from the creature in their makeshift homes, not even daring to defend themselves. I couldn't blame them. It wasn't their fault Jax chose Smallville to attack, it was mine for daring to disagree with him.
"Stand down, Kara" Jax repeated as I flew in and started hitting Chemo's helmet with alternating left and right punched. The metal didn't dent or crack, and after engaging my x-ray vision I found that it had been bonded perfectly at the lowest level. It would take more power than I could begin to imagine to rip through it! I drifted back and took a hit to my face for my troubles, giving me a nose bleed.
"Why do you do this, Kara? Why put yourself through all this trauma for barbaric parasites?"
"Because they're still better than a genocidal maniac like you, Jax," I replied. Chemo sized me up, stepping towards me as I floated backwards.
"I only wanted to help this planet, Kara. You could have been my queen but now, you're forcing my hand," Jax told me while Chemo aimed both of its palms up at me, preparing to fire. "I loved your Kara, but you betrayed our species, our planet, our peoples way of life, for the ones who did all of this," Chemo motioned a hand towards the atomic wastelands.
"No, I didn't betray our peoples way of life, YOU DID! Krypton was never a planet of war! It was a planet of science, technology, and peace!" I glared at Chemo, my eyes flickering a light red as I grew more and more angry. "So what if some humans destroyed the planet? Somebody on Krypton may have done something to destroy our home world, should we be judged for that?"
"You're wrong, Kara", Jax cold rebuttled, not even taking a second to consider what I said.
"And you're easily distracted!" I managed to get out through laughter, my eyes returning to normal.
"W...what have you...you li..." Jax started before Chemo (And the voice transmission hardware built into it) fell flat on its face. Behind the fallen giant sat Krypto, clutching the tubing connecting the different parts of Chemo's body together in his mouth like a chew toy while the acidic goop dripped out.
"Good boy!" I called over to Krypto as Chemo's insides drained out onto the ground. Slowly the residents of Smallville stepped outside their homes to survey the damage. Aside from the town tavern, which had lost its roof and most of the interior, the majority of the buildings only had small amounts of damage which could be fixed quickly.
"Kara!", I turned around to see Jivan Shi running across town towards me at full speed. "How did you...wow," she said, her voice going from loud to quiet as she saw Chemo up close. "Is that..."
"Jivan," I interrupted. "When you were fighting Chemo, you tried ti grab your necklace", I motioned to her wolfs head pendent which hung from her neck. "Why?"
"What do you mean wh..."
"Jivan, I'm not stupid. What is it?"
"It..." Jivan paused. "I guess...I guess you deserve to know about me, Kara".

Ten years previous
Twenty-two year old Jivan Shi sprinted down a dust covered hill, sending dirt flying up into her face and clothes. She wore a pair of high quality hiking boots, but aside from that most of her clothes were crafted from scrap fabric. Jivan dropped her heavy back pack and kept sprinting, creating a smoke screen of sorts with the dust which she hoped would blind her pursuer. Behind Jivan her campsite laid ruined in the distance, her guide laid dead under the sweltering sun and her shotgun has been left in her tent.
Jivan reached the bottom of the hill and rounded a boulder, coming face to face with a seven feet tall monster. Its claws were almost half a foot long, its eyes were almost slits like a snakes, its ears were stuck up and its body was covered in a thin layer of white fur. It was too big to be a werehyene or werewolf, but also too lean and adapted to be one of the mutated gigantopithecus apes which roamed the deserts and plains of the wastelands.
"Come on my child," the monster whispered in a hushed tone. "Just let me bite you, and me can be a classic...father and daughter team, you know?" the monster chuckled while advancing towards Jivan Shi. Jivan responded by withdrawing her poorly made machete and brandishing it in front of her.
"Leave me alone dad, I don't want to be like you. I don't want to be...this!" Jivan yelled while swinging her blade in front of her, motioning to her fathers monstrous form.
"I gave you my name, I gave you my love, now let me give you this!" Jivan's father snarled while diving at Jivan with his mouth open to bite her. "Join the lycans, daughter!" Jivan dove backwards while jamming her machete up into the beasts mouth, which her father bit straight through with his rows of razor sharp teeth. "Come on, junior. I survived the apocalypse like this. I've lived for hundreds of years as a lycan, and no daughter of mine will die as just a human!"
"You're a madman!" Jivan spat back as she swung the remains of her machete at her father. "You've been killing people for century after century like that. You killed my mother, you cursed me with the same name as you, and now you want me to be a damn lycan?! You don't care about me, you care about your damn name you monster!"
Jivan dropped her machete and turned to try running, but her father caught her by her ankle. "Your mother was a means to an end, junior. I was angry she birthed a girl and not a man who could carry on the family name, you cannot blame me for that, can you?" Her father seemed sincere, which scared Jivan Shi even more. Before she could respond she felt dozens of jagged teeth being sunk into her ribs. Jivan tried to fight back, but her fathers teeth kept sinking deeper. As she blacked out, Jivan felt herself growing in size, and hair sprouting up across her body. "Emperor Jivan shall at last have an heir".

Three years later
Jivan Shi sat outside the shamans tent silently, clutching her knees. She wore purple robes, covering every inch of skin on her body including her face. The tent was situated some hundred feet up a hill, away from prying eyes or the natural threats of the world. "You may enter, Jivan Shi" a soft female voice called from inside the tent. Jivan crawled into the make-shift structure which was no more than five feet high, made from cows hide and smelt like it had been standing for years. In the centre of the tent sat a short woman who on both feet still only came up to Jivan Shi's knees. Her face was wrinkled and pudgy, but Jivan could sense youth in the shaman still. She wore ceremonial robes, stitched together from various sources. "You're the lycan girl, yes?"
Jivan Shi nodded hastily while scanning the tent carefully. A few trinkets and useless junk was laid across the floor next to a sleeping bag, but aside from that the tent was surprisingly bare. "I've travelled far to see you, shaman, so please excuse my exhaustion".
"Don't worry", the Shaman replied, "I am here only to help. So, what is your issue? You are aware I cannot remove the curse, correct?"
"Of course I understand that, I've lost hope for that. My issue is...is controlling..."
"The transformations?" the shaman interjected. "Understandable. When I knew your father he admitted it took him almost a hundred years to master transforming only when he wanted to, and you are no Emperor Jivan".
"You knew my father?" Jivan asked while pulling her hood from her hair. Jivan had shaved her head to avoid her fathers spy's relaying her location back to him, but Jivan was still paranoid enough to hide her face.
"Ah yes, some eighty years ago, I suppose. Time isn't as straight forward anymore...heck, I'm unsure if it was before or after the apocalypse. Your father was strange, to say the least. He respected me as a woman of knowledge, but yet seemed to hate me for knowing more than him. He was arrogant, yet willing to listen. He always talked about how he wanted a son, which may explain why he passed on his name to you. After knowing him for a few hours, I could already tell he believed lycans to be the last hope for this planet, and seeing as how he survived for this long, he may..."
"He's not correct," Jivan snapped. "The man is a psychopath and a killer. I don't want to be a part of his...his delusions!"
"And how can i help you with that, Jivan?"
"I need...I need a way to control the transformations".

Seven years later
"And so, she made my necklace my sort of trigger item", Jivan told me while showing me her necklace. "The pendent is actually a wolfs head, while a lycan is more like a hyena, but it doesn't matter really" We were sat outside what remained of the tavern, each drinking a cup of water. "It's purely psychological, but I no longer transform just from emotion."
"So you thought if you transformed into a lycan, you could help me fight Chemo?" I said while glancing at the aforementioned monster. Chemo was at that point no more than a pile of toxic waste in the centre of town with a circle of children sat around it like a drum circle.
"Yes, of course, wouldn't you?"
I sighed and nodded. "I guess. So what happened to your father?"
"I believe he went back to India, trying to start a new order of the lycans. Good riddance, I can only hope the rumours of mile long giant earth worms are true and one of them eats the horrible old coot," Jivan bluntly replied. I sat in silence looking out over the town for some time, glad that I at last knew about Jivan's past.
