Name: Chris
Age: 22
What do you do?: Student. Political Science Major. Campaign Intern.
Hobbies and/or interests: I play Guitar, Piano and Bass. I'm in band. I read a lot. I also read and collect comics (obviously).
How long have you been writing? First time I wrote a fanfiction was for the last Ultimate DC site. So that was around 2004. When that went down, I didn't do anything regularly until now.
Do you write anything non-fan fiction? I write a lot of papers and I have a few articles published in my School's political science journal.
What are your main inspirations when writing? Usually TV or Comics. If I read a comic or watch a TV show I always think about how I would have done it differently.
Would you like to write for a comic company? Yeah, that'd be awesome. I don't think I could pull off being like Geoff Johns. But writing having a lengthy run on a nice book that stays out of the way would be nice.
Who is your favorite comic author? Novel author? Comics? Probably Geoff Johns pre-2007. Or Grant Morrison (his Batman run brought me back to comics). As far as novels go, I rarely read novels, most of the prose books I read are history books. The last book I read was A People's History of the United States. I really liked that.
Who is your favorite comic characters? Marvel? DC? Other? DC - The Flash (Wally West). I'm also really enjoying Stephanie Brown as Batgirl Marvel - The Thing Other - I mainly stick to Marvel and DC (lately just DC).
What is your favorite comic story? Marvel? DC? Other? DC- Batman: The Long Halloween. Or Geoff Johns' Flash Blood Will Run-Blitz. Marvel- I really liked Mark Waid's run on Fantastic Four Other- Again, mainly just stick to the big 2.
What moment in comic history most influenced you/made you a comic fan? I first got into comics after X2 and I only read X-Men for a while. Marvel did a great job with jump on comics during that time period, so I got into a lot more. Then I got Green Arrow Quiver, because I liked powerless Heroes. That broke me into DC and the rest his history. Batman R.I.P. got me back into comics.
Why did you choose your character(s) to write? I love the entire Flash mythology and I wrote him before for another site. It was the work I've been proudest of all these years later and I wanted to do it again.
What character that you did not claim would you like to try your hand at most? I have an idea for Justice Society that I might take up in the near future. Hogwarts for Superheroes.

Hobbies and/or interests: Reading, writing, I've taken to jogging as of late
How long have you been writing? *does math* 10 years. A Marvel roleplay and Lasthero's Doomsday VS The Marvel Universe got me into writing fanfics and the what not.
Do you write anything non-fan fiction? Yes. I have an anthology with another guy in the process of being published. We're working on a proper series for it as well. And, I have a Supernatural Roleplay on GameFAQs currently.
What are your main inspirations when writing? Pretty much whatever I see/do though I have a lot during tedious activities such as driving, showering, yard work, etc.... (Fun Fact for Fox: I had the idea I ran by you while in the shower.)
Would you like to write for a comic company? I'd love to but I have more realistic dreams now that I'm getting a tad older and I'm growing to hate the treatment of their writers.

Partial to Damian since I love the little bastard but it's a tad early for him and given our Batman, any idea with him needs some work.
Lets go with Jade. I know nothing of the character, Alan Scott, or really the GLs but she seems like the perfect character to interact with the Spoilers.

Kind of off topic, but Final Crisis. I am not really into massive continuity driven stories. However, Morrison (along with Scott Snyder and Bryan Q. Miller) is one of the only reasons I read comics. But I'm frightened that I'll get it and it will be over my head. What do you think?
|
|
|
Post by Kefka's Laughter on Jun 20, 2011 2:27:44 GMT -5
Honestly, Final Crisis is unlike most "universe spanning" crossovers, especially for DC, because it is incredibly self contained. If you get the trade, it includes the only crucial tie-in which happens to also be by Morrison.
The ramifications are only on us, the readers. If you think you could appreciate a story that is in the end about story telling, you're in for a treat. I see Morrison's Batman brought you back to comics. If you enjoy all the various voices he has used, from early Batman, to Batman RIP and then Batman and Robin, through the silver age storytelling styling of Inc I think you'll enjoy FC. I think Amazon had the trade for $7 a while back. If you can get it for that price go for it.

What do you do?: Work a standard office job on a Help Desk.
Hobbies and/or interests: Football, music, writing.
How long have you been writing? On and off for years. I first picked up the pen and started writing when I was about 8 years old. While everyone was pretty supportive, thinking back, it probably sucked. I stopped writing for a while from when I was about 11, and didn't start again until I was 16.
Do you write anything non-fan fiction? I wrote a couple of pieces for schoolwork years ago, but never anything just for the fun of it.
What are your main inspirations when writing? Film/Game/TV scores. There's usually a track that suits the mood I want in my library, which really helps when I'm actually writing the scene.

What is your favorite comic story? Marvel? DC? Other? I was very fond of Joe Kelly's run on Deadpool. Alan Moore's The Killing Joke was another favourite. I've only just recently read it, but The Sword by the Luna Brothers wasn't something I expected to like much, but I couldn't put it down.
What moment in comic history most influenced you/made you a comic fan? The Marvel and Batman cartoons in the 90's made me interested in comics, but the first proper comic I bought on a regular basis was Sonic the Comic here in the UK.
Why did you choose your character(s) to write? I haven't picked anyone yet.
What character that you did not claim would you like to try your hand at most? I've only been here 10 minutes so I don't know who has claimed who yet other than the usual suspects. I suppose Nightwing would be fun.
