Go Captain Adam!
I know it was mostly exposition but I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I think something went wrong in your pasting. You have paragraph breaks in the middle of sentences.

Was interesting setup. I do find some hard to believe. I know it's comic book stuff and all, but no government organization would follow a chess theme and use White Kings and Black Queens and such. Also, once the bomber died, that room would have been cleared and everyone searched in no time.
Lastly, the most ridiculous thing of all, is the idea that the UN can actually DO something! *badum ching!*
Seriously though, realism aside, it was well written. I don't know if it's your intent, but I think it would be interesting to do a more political take on the super hero world. Keep 'em coming.

I liked it much for the same reasons that everyone else stated. I do like political intrigue. I ate up 24, even though deep down I know it was a relatively crappy show. Stuff like that just gets me. Might have something to do with my almost completed political science degree.
However, there was one thing as far as site continuity goes. I know a lot of the people I've talked to are starting their titles in 2011. Not that it's a bad thing you're starting in 2010, but you have a line that mentions the rise of superheroes and it's in 2010. Not sure how many superheroes were running around then. Just one small nitpick.

I think I've corrected the formatting issues.
As for starting it in 2010. I avoided the word super hero mostly cause i had continuity in mind. I even throw my dig at Jubilee in there addressing that most of the superhumans had mundane abilities.

Okay. That works then. It wouldn't be out of the question for the world to know something was up in 2010 before the explosion occurs in 2011.

Liked it man, good idea about china- it's a great concept that everyone can tap into if they want, but I would definitely like a secret origins of some sort just to keep track of who is who...

Secret Origins are on the way my core cast is bigger then any other book so you can count on those being on the way.

I really liked the 1st issue. Where we meet Checkmate and seeing Sgt.Rock. I guess its hinted he's an immortal soldier who can't age now. Or his aging is slowed down. Nice to see Captain Atom and Black Lightning in this .

Wow, ok, good. You're probably the most influential person on this board right now, as far as shaping the DC world (internationally at least), but with a title like Checkmate that makes sense. Anyway, good issue. I really don't mind a long set up when it comes to something like this, you've got a lot of characters. The China thing is a big idea so I'm interested to see how that will be handled. Keep it coming, I wont stop reading.

I also don't mind the long set up but I would like a little more description. Most of your writing is done as if you expect us all to automatically know what/who you're talking about yet I feel the need to google in most cases. With your cast of characters and the way you're using them, I don't think it'd hurt if you actually went into detail on characters instead of just really mentioning a name and something minor, loosely connected

I plan on doing some Secret Origins over the next week to solve that issue. I felt it'd be better to do the secret origins then have a huge pile of descriptions making up an issue.

I'm a big DC fan so I know a lot of the characters your bringing into Checkmate. I do like the lineup and with the story arc of a "Humanity Camp" in China , I'm interested in the next issue where it goes.

Also for anyone who feels like I should've combined issues #1 and #2 with their utter lack of action will be pleased with me picking up the pace for the next issues as we enter China and the humanity camps.

Just posted an introductory post for The Ten Brothers the leaders of the group of the same name which will be taking up much of Checkmate's time for the immediate future.

Cool characters, they seem like they'll be worthy foes for Checkmate.

Issue 2 wasn't bad. I think you shot yourself in the foot by revealing the traitor right out of the bat. It undercuts the whole "who is the traitor?" type tension and the reveal later when it's dramatic. Unless you plan to have him betray China, in which case that might have been good except I already figured it out if that was your plan.... Keep 'em coming.
