In the past year, we've made some real progress on the site. Despite some setbacks, we actually have several titles established on the site. We have a new multiverse board for all sorts of new possibilities. And I'm fairly confident we can finally get Justice League soon at this rate.
With these accomplishments come some new possible rule changes. Before I or any other admin make anything official, I'm opening these up for discussion for everyone, user and admin alike.
Continuations
With the advent of completed titles, we now are in the unique position of being able to take over those titles. Currently our system for claims lists assumes new titles, and it also assumes at least six issues to establish new characters. With these titles already established, we could have the possibility of writers making less of a commitment. Maybe you only want to write a one or two issue story. Should there be altered rules for claims lists and limits with continuations? Should we allow one or two issue commitments from writers? Should this privilege be only for established writers?
New Title Limit
I'm increasing the title limit to three, with one limitation. The logic behind this is that this way a writer could potentially have one ongoing title they work consistently at, one title they could switch franchises on and only do a few issues at a time to mix things up, and one title as a continuation. The new rule is that you may have up to three titles as long as you qualify for those three titles and at least one of those titles is a continuation of a completed title (no, a title you started that is just long doesn't count).
Multiverse Titles
The Nightmare parallel universe was opened up this year as part of a Halloween celebration, and we will open up future parallel universes in the future. These are meant to be incentives, so here's the current ruling: You must be an established writer with at least one ongoing title. At which point you can make a claim for one of the parallel universes, and you're not limited to what's already been claimed for the main universe. The subboards will be parallel universes, like the Nightmare Universe for example. More parallel universes will open as the site reaches additional milestones, and which parallel universes open up will be up for discussion. The "Rest of the Multiverse" subboard (kind of terrible title I know. I'm open on suggestions to change it) will not only eventually contain a thread indexing our Ultimate Multiverse, but will also contain room for purely one-shot universes where you can write stories that aren't limited by the rest of our canon.
Continuity
Officially really broken down on the revamped Continuity board. Right now we have a thread for a synopsis for each completed title to make it easier to catch up (incomplete, and I'm currently accepting volunteers to help contribute to it). Also planned, instead of a "Who's Who?" and a "Who's Dead?" and a "Where's Where?" separate threads, having one giant glossary for every character and plot element in our UDC canon. And although all of the above is only for titles that have been established in our continuity, there is a separate threads for all of our new titles to make whatever contributions you like. Any suggestions for revamping or contributing to the continuity board are welcome, and in case you miss it, all of the old continuity threads have been archived in one of the subboards. Speaking of which...
Hall of Justice
This new password-protected subboard in the Continuity board is for all the established writers on the site. If you qualify (have at least one title established in continuity) just PM me and I'll get you the password. Hopefully this board will be very useful in building our Ultimate universe.
If any of the above sounds confusing, it could be that I'm speed-typing most of this while on Nyquil, but that's why this thread is open. Questions. Comments. Suggestions. All feedback from all users are welcome here.
A few more additional side notes: I still need to make some additions to the MCL. They are on the agenda and will be fixed soon. The header with recently updated titles will be updated in the next month. Proboards is scheduled to update our forum to the new Proboards v5 which you may have seen on other sites. I've been reassured by the Proboards support team that we won't lose any actual content, though there might be some coding issues when it actually happens.
Happy 2014, and let's continue to make this site Ultimate!
