I have gathered that there was a First Universe of Ultimate DC titles before the current one that we write in. What happened to the First Universe? Was it a Crisis story or a New 52 thing? Or was it a more behind the scenes deal?
What happened to the First Universe?

From what I can tell (I came after) it petered out. Writers stopped showing up.
I will say that when DOB and I showed up we both worked with people to incorporate favorite aspects of the prior story. In that way I'd hesitate to call it a new 52. A good amount, at least by me, of the old verse got carried over. It wasn't ignored or erased.
The old stories are stored at the bottem of the main page. It's really good stuff.

I joined right about the time of the reboot. As far as I know, if there was a real reason for the reboot, it was something discussed among the admins, which I was not one of at the time. There was no big world-ending crisis, just a reboot.
If anything was carried over, I wouldn't know. Supposedly some of the earlier titles tried to tie in some of the old content, but I wouldn't be able to tell you what if any made it into the current continuity.

Thinking about the First Universe gave me the idea of an Infinite Crisis style story of the First Universe Superman is stuck in limbo and is forced to watch our universe continue living while his is forgotten and erased. He goes mad and escapes. He then launches his attack on Metropolis. Very Superboy Prime-ish.

There was suppose to be a big crisis story, but the admins never managed to get it done, so we did a reboot instead.
Am I the only writer (sort of) who was from before the reboot?

Went back and started rereading some of the preboot titles. I haven't read much, only the first issues of Hawkman and Green Arrow, but it's fairly interesting. You can definitely tell from past claims threads that UDC was a lot more active back then. I'm definitely looking forward to tearing through a handful of the titles over my Winter Break. I imagine I'll be looking into Wachter's Spoilers title, maybe Action Comics or Miller's Flash.
So, if anyone (which definitely includes SK) has read any of the preboot titles, what's your favorite? I want recommendations, and I also think it'd be good to start a conversation on the board.

I wasn't here back then but what happened to all of the activity on these boards?

It's complicated. Some people got upset, some didn't the new writers/direction and some just left. Never did say why.

I came in when activity was dying. In fact, Miller specifically said he wanted to do a reboot precisely because interest was dying and the only issues being posted were #1s of new titles and a couple of other titles.
Jackalope's Wonder Woman is good. So is Stardrifter's Superman. YMMV on Jordan's continuation. Which isn't an insult against Jordan. I'm sure he will admit that not everyone agreed with his direction.
I also like my Suicide Squad #1 but meh on #2.
Edit: And anything by MRP.

I've only read Watcher's Spoilers and Brave and the Bold because his Haven run was that good but they're amazing.

Thanks, SK!
Yeah, I wasn't around either, cross. Still, reading the old stuff is pretty cool.

Watcher was a really good writer, I worked with him. But he's one of the writers who just faded away without explanation. Reason I got BOP, actually. It was supposed to me co-written. Didn't work out that way.

jackalope's Ultimate SHADE is one of the better FU titles that hasn't been mentioned. If you're gonna read some older ones I would definitely suggest that.
Back in the OOOLD days when we first had one of these sites here, I'm talking a decade or so ago, I had a pretty long Ultimate Nightwing run going, with a spin off original 5 Titans mini that led into an Outsiders series. Man those were the days. I had so much free time back then(pre wife and kids) that I was cranking out multiple issues a month.
I even did a non-continuity one shot Nightwing/Mr. T team up in which they fought a Christopher Walken inspired Doctor Gloom. Wrap your head around that one.
Anyone else do any interesting fanfic work back in the day? Even non comic related?

That sucks everyone left. I'm having a ton of fun with Catman right now and having more ultimate titles would make it even better. Just makes me crave Justice League and Titans that much more.
HOLY CRAP I didn't know that this had been around for a decade!

I don't think this particular version of UDC has, but the community in general has definitely been around for a while.

Just need some new blood to keep things going is all. And a few new mods to keep things done.

Absolutely! Hopefully we can get all that figured out and the rest will fall into place.

I noticed that Flash may be the most dropped title on the site
