Ultimate Books of Magic #4.5 is up. If this were an actual comic, it would be one of those jam issues with each chapter drawn by a different art team. It is called Brothers in Arms and examines the nature of the Stranger's relationships with the partners he has had over the years, in particular John Zatara. Look for guest appearances by John Constantine, Madame Xanadu and leaping from the as yet unpublished pages of the Ultimate Outsiders, Dr. Occult and Rose Psychic.
And since I have been informed the .5 issues of BoM count towards the 6 issue threshold of being in continuity, BoM is now officially in continuity. Woot!

Yay for 6 issues.
It was all in all enjoyable. However, the chapters really didn't have much meat to them individually to draw me into the story. Probably would have worked in art form. Don't think it worked so much here.

Yeah, I have to agree with wachter on 4.5. But I know that most of this will pay off later. If I were writing it, I may have thrown all of this across other issues rather than give it its own issue. But that's just personal preference.
But, I've caught up on the rest and while you do jump around a lot, it's mostly based between Zatanna/Constantine and Amy/Tim, so there's a lot to like regardless of where you are telling the story from. While Amy and Tim do talk older than what I'd expect from a typical 13 year old, it can chalk it up to them being wiser than their years.
Love this title. Sorry I haven't been reviewing regularly.

Just read #4. I really liked the confrontation with Baron Winter and the scenes with Timothy and Amy. The fact he gets the owl and learns that. It was a pretty solid read here and liked the epilogues that will have some stuff coming .

So I've caught up. Must say this series is very impressive. A very well done job that I could believe was professional. I'm very interested in where you are going and the mythos youre building.
I have two constructive critcisms/nitpicks...
1. Tim and Amy often talk more like adults than thirteen year olds. I suppose their magical origins might be behind that, but I found it distracting. 2. I am so sick of reading about the man wearing a fedora and cape with white hair every issue. Sometimes even more than once an issue. No one is jumping into the series halfway. We know what Stranger looks like by now. I understand if something is different about his appearance, but when nothing is changed and I'm reading the same description for the tenth time....i want to year out my hair.
But honestly those are minor gripes in a very well done series. Keep em coming.

Nice wrap up for the first arc. I applaud the decision to kill or whatever it is you did to him. This early in the narrative it's a pretty bold decision to off a main character. On a side note, I noticed a few typos when reading the issue nothing major just a missing letter or swapped letter.
"It is thick, back and viscous"
"Zatanna constnues"
Just little things; but was shocking as it's the first time I've noticed any mistakes in your writing.

I'll give it another proofread tomorrow. This one was tough to edit as I kept getting lost in the story rather than being removed with an editorial eye. My writing is usually rife with typos*, I just usually thoroughly edit and proofread before posting, I just plain dropped the ball this time.

*Just ask wachter who sees first drafts at times or chats on google with me as we plot things like Young Justice or my CM arc. I am an absolutely horrible typist, having never had any formal training during my schooldays.

Ultimate Books of Magic #6: Aftermath: The Mourning After is up. It's a long one, think of it as a double-sized issue for Zatara's memorial. Lots of guest stars and cameos, plus a few hopefully surprising reveals setting up things to come in future arcs. I wrote most of the issue dealing with Zatanna dealing with the loss of her father on Father's Day, so decided to dedicate the issue to the memory of my own father...miss you Dad!
As always looking forward to more of your reactions and comments. -M

Very. Well done issue MRP. Funeral/mourning scenes are always difficult to handle (for me at least) but you did a great job. You managed to make me empathize with Zee, and it really felt like a celebration of his life with all the cameos and small story beats, whether they fleshed out history or set up the future.
Thanks for the Fleur-de-Lis cameo. PM-ing you about a thought I had as I read through #6, too.
Great job!

Caught up with the last two issues. 5 was good. The death was well done. I did feel like the plan for the group to get back was alittle overdone. I know the point was to get everyone involved, but as she explained it I was like-"C'mon already!"
6 was good, though to be honest it was kinda boring. The cameos were fun but got to the point where it felt like it would never end.
But these are minor gripes for two well done stories. Keep em coming.

I really loved this issue.
I've told you time and time again that my favorite parts of Books of Magic are the ones that focus on Amy and Tim and this issue was almost all Amy and Tim. It's kind of hard to convince me that two kids who are thirteen actually love each other, but you did here. Tim's devotion of his friend (girlfriend?) leapt off the page or screen rather.
But, otherwise I really enjoyed the expansion of your mythology, which has been something I always look forward to in this title. And while I loved the funeral issue, this one definitely turned the heat back up.
I look forward to more.

Im gonna be contrary and say the Tim/Amy stuff is my least favorite in the series. Not that its bad, just least favorite.
Another good issue. Kind if just setup, so not a lot to get into yet. Keep em coming.

I absolutely loved the descriptions in this issue. I'm only a few paragraphs in but, I had to stop and comment on it though. Loved the description of the three figures speech patterns were nicely done.

I added a sample Who's Who Page to the Primer thread, I may add a poll here in a few minutes to see what y'all think about it.
-M
PS Well it seems I can't add a poll to this thread since I had one earlier, so no poll for now unless I add it to a different thread...
