I have now read through most of his Batman run and re-read New X-Men, Animal Man and his JLA over the course of the past week and I think I can safely say that I'm one of those Morrison fan boys I always used to make fun of when I first read comics.

He's a fantastic writer, no doubt. He's one of the more creative and innovative writers out there.

I love him. Plus as a Neo-Pagan who has had a lot of my practice influenced by Pop Culture and Comics I love how open he is about his beliefs and very bizarre experiences.

So I have JLA, Animal Man, New X-Men and Batman under my belt, what should I go to next? I'm not just interested in the superhero work, I want to read as much as I can from him. It's interesting because he has this very complex style, but he also remains easy to digest unlike some other writers who write just to be confusing. Also for as inovative as he is, his titles always are rather cinematic and I could see them easily being put up on the big screen by just using the comic script with very few changes.

Well if you really want to read the series that I believe he considers his most personal you have to give The Invisibles a try.

I like Grant Morrison. Personally I think his occultist beliefs are nonsense but I enjoy his work without turning into a clusterfuck of pseudo-philosophical bullshit like a handful of comic writers like to do sometimes. That said, Arkham Asylum is one of my favorite Batman comics along with The Cult. He's not afraid to think outside the box and for that alone I admire him even if I'm sometimes not so crazy about his final product.

We3, Seaguy, All Star Superman, Doom Patrol, Skrull Kill Krew all good stuff. Okay, so I had a 40% off and a $10 gift card for Borders so I went down and luckily enough they had a copy each of All Star Superman volumes 1 and 2. Bought them both and read them twice through yesterday (like I normally do with Morrison comics) and I think it was one of the few comics I can straight up call beautiful. I don't think I actually need to buy a Superman comic again. Man, good stuff.

I don't think I actually need to buy a Superman comic again. *L* Yeah I think that's the opinion of most people who even remotely like Superman. Morrison so totally nailed the essence of the character and the comics that it's beyond amazing.

Does anyone know what Morrison's run on The Flash was like? I found two trades of his at my comic book store, THe Human Race and Emergency Stop. Just wondering if they were worth picking up.

Yep. He's going to be tackling an Early Superman story in Action Comics. He has talked in the past about wanting to do one that creates the second bookend of All Star Superman. From all we've heard about it, it seems like he'll be doing that with this series.

His Flash books are really Mark Millar books. Even Morrison doesn't consider it a true Flash run... when Action Comics was announced he did an interview where they asked if he had any stories left he wanted to tell. He said that he got to play with every superhero he wanted to except for The Flash.

And I'd love to see that. He could do some pretty messed up stuff with the Speed Force.
Okay, I know I asked this question earlier in the thread, but that's before we had all of these people. So recently I've been going back and filling all the gaps of New X-Men and JLA. Today, I just ordered JLA: Earth 2 for $3, which is pretty cool. So in total I have:
All of JLA All of New X-Men All-Star Superman The First Animal Man His Batman through Batman R.I.P. (Waiting on the rest to go to trade before I get the rest). The First Seven Soldiers trade
So where should I go from here? I'm pretty intrigued by Seven Soliders, but I hear mixed feeings about it. But to be fair, I hear mixed feelings towards anything Morrison. I mean the obvious answer is to go back and finish what I've already started, but I'm open to completely new stuff too. Thanks.

I absolutely would love for him to do a run on Flash. I'm almost disappointed about Action Comics for postponing half of Batman Inc, and preventing him from getting a new character. ASS is the perfect Supes story. Dude, get Batman and Robin in those beautiful Deluxe Hardcovers. You can get all three for like, $40 on Amazon and they are totally worth it. Some of the best made collections I've ever had. I had the issues and sold them on ebay once I saw the HCs. Seven Soldiers is great, but really sort of his warm up for what he does with Final Crisis. If you liked Animal Man I'd say finish that out, or start Invisibles. If you would rather get some of his one and done stuff first, try Sea Guy, We3 or the recent Joe the Barbarian are all great reads. I mentioned elsewhere that Final Crisis is my all time favorite story, so you can guess how I feel about that as a starting place

My problem with hardcovers is that for some reason they don't hold up to the wear and tear that I put on comics as I'm reading them. They look beautiful on the shelf, but they begin to fall apart once I start reading them, so I have no big problem waiting for paperback. Especially when there's so much out there. Yeah, I do plan on finishing Animal Man, don't know what took me so long. I originally got it when I was sampling a bunch of Vertigo titles years ago and it was my favorite next to Y: The Last Man (which is quite possibly my favorite comic of all time). Invisibles frightens me a little bit, because I feel like that's where a lot of the Morrison stereotypes come into play. And while I don't think he's ever as bad as his stereotypes should say, the one that spawned them does leave me a little nervous. Also what are your feelings towards Doom Patrol? To me, it seems like somewhat of a dark horse in the Morrison catalogue I don't really hear many people talk about it.

Doom Patrol is good, but not something amazing enough to be early in your exploration of his canon.
Maybe just get the first trade from a couple of them to see which works best.

My library has a lot of graphic novels/collections. I've read Arkham Asylum, Sandman, Swamp Thing, Sin City, Preacher, Walking Dead, and a crapload of other stuff for free. I recommend checking comics out of your local library or using library interloan to get them. Save your $20 per book for something you absolutely must have. University libraries are good places to check because they usually have a ton of stuff.

Oh I only buy the must owns too. I'll be honest. I pirate a lot of comics. There are sites that just make it too easy, and comics are pricey. Anything with Morrison, Jonathan Hickman or Scott Snyder's name gets an automatic buy from me though.

I'm actually in the same boat as you, Ive been saving money for a house so every paycheck goes towards that. I do buy some trades here and there but like you said it's too easy to download them. However I do plan on buying all 52 #1's in September on my iPad just to support the whole digital thing.
