Okay read #6. An interesting direction, but it raises a few continuity and procedural issues.
First procedural-It's only been a few days to a week at most since Prometheus was arrested. As busy as the courts are, he likely hasn't even had an arraignment yet, let alone a trial so the likelihood of him being in Blackgate so soon after his arrest is unlikely unless he had escaped after being sentenced there previously and was taken to resume serving his time. Most liley he would be in a county jail awaiting his court date. The justice system moves so slow that it makes molasses seem like its channeling the speed force. Its a minor detail, but verisimilitude of stories comes from getting the details right.
As for continuity issues...
One, Gotham Harbor on New Year's Day would be swarming with police investigators searching for the source an explosion that occurred there the night before and Gotham would be abuzz after the events of New Year's Eve as will be seen in the next issue of Detective and Young Justice #1. Second, magical artifacts that powerful would likely have drawn the attention of the Shadowpact, as part of their purpose is to keep the balance and prevent artifacts like that from falling into the wrong hands. If they hadn't been aware of the stones before (unlikely) they would likely intervene as soon as they get activated if they are activated.
Not trying to tie your hands creatively, but one of the challenges of a shared universe is we all play in the same sandbox. There is no editor to oversee continuity and to tell writers to make changes to keep continuity, which is why we ask writers who are using elements of a shared mythology to check with other writers on their own, an honor system so to speak. Gotham falls under the Batman umbrella so I am usually the one to check with, magic for the most part falls under the umbrella of both the Shadowpact and Books of Magic. It's possible the stones slipped through the crack and avoided Shadowpact mention, but that probably has to be accounted for as a story element somewhere.
It's not a big deal, no harm no foul this time, but the devil is in the details and Gotham has a lot that is going to be happening that will affect the entire city in the early months of 2012 in the UDCU and those things should be reflected in other stories set in Gotham during that period. It's always easier to prevent issues than fix them, which is why communication is important. It's a pain in the ass I know, I have had to change so many plot elements I wanted to play with because of pre-established continuity or future plans of other writers that I can understand how frustrating it can be, but it is the price of writing in a universe with a shared continuity.
So good issue, needs some proofreading/editing here and there, and interesting direction, just be careful with continuity moving forward.
