Seems as good a time as any to get this started.
Anyone watch the PPV last night?

I haven't watched wrestling since grade school, back when there were people like Razor Ramon and some clown and the closest thing there was to a "good guy" was the Undertaker. Oh, and according to their sega genesis game they had superpowers. Back then the fans I knew still insisted that everything in wrestling was absolutely real and not scripted in the slightest, and the only time wrestling people would admit any of it might not be 100% real was in publications they were certain wrestling fans would never read, like science magazines.
It was a weird time. They had cool action figures though.

I must say, the original Matt Bourne Doink is easily in my Top 10 All Time Heels, he was good both in the ring and out of it. He could hang with Randy Savage AND managed to make Brian Adams look good, which was no small feat, even back then. Razor was great too, just wish he could get his life together for good.
Trying to remember the game you're talking about. The Genesis ones seemed fairly standard (and easily my favorites of the 16 bit era). The only one that I could remember that seemed to add "super hero" type elements was this one:
You're certainly right about the early to mid 90s being an especially weird time. They weren't quite sure where they were going - they couldn't continue with the overly roided types that had carried the 80s due to the Steroid Trials, but they hadn't fully embraced the idea of going with smaller guys like Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels yet. Kayfabe was slowly dying - the fact that they even talked about it at all, anywhere, was a sure sign of that. Wasn't too long before they fully embraced the fact that everything was staged, and started to use that in storyline. A far cry from the days of Mr. Wrestling going back into the ring two weeks after surviving a plane crash that killed one of his friends and left everyone else in the flight, Wrestling included, nearly crippled - just so that people wouldn't think a face was flying with the heels.

WWF Raw for the Genesis. Not only did I have that game, but I had the VHS tape where the wrestlers told you how to do the secret moves, in character.

Huh, totally forgot about those mega moves. Those games were great - it was sad, it took the Smackdown games years to get the rope physics that the Genesis games had down pat.

That Samoa Joe/Kevin Owens match was awesome, it was my first time seeing Joe wrestle and while he was never going to live up to the hype he was amazing, if that was the opening match the end of the storyline is going to be amazing.

If you watch no other episode of Lucha Underground you need to watch last week's, it's one match for the entire night, Johnny Mundo, AKA John Morrison, and Prince Puma, AKA Ricochet in an iron man match for the Lucha Underground title. It involves Tables, chairs, ladders, a god damn crowbar, and even a musical performance (Lucha Underground has a band). You don't need to know anything going in to the match, just that you will be seeing a contender for match of the year.

I've heard great things about Lucha Underground, but haven't been able to track it down. My cable company isn't carrying El Rey yet, which is a shame. Wonder if anyone's thrown the episode up on YOutube yet.
And man, Samoa Joe could not have come in at a better time - with Sami Zayn out until next year and Hideo/KENTA out until the fall the earliest, NXT needs some fresh blood to keep its momentum. Plus I'd read that Uhaa Nation's debut is imminent as well. Without question, it's the best show WWE has going, it's almost a shame to see Neville and Owens toiling away in that mediocrity.

I highly recommend finding a way to watch Lucha Underground since I started I have not seen a bad episode, it has great continuity and because it has a set end date for the season the story lines don't overstay there welcome but they can also come back weeks sometimes even months later. Plus some of the stuff they pull off is flat out ridiculous, look up Angelico's dropkick for one of the best examples.
As for NXT, I agree about Samoa Joe debuting at the best time, Last weeks episode was the best since Takeover and a lot of that was his match with Kevin Owens putting anything else to shame, and I say that as a complete mark for The Realest Guys. I also agree about NXT being the best WWE show, I don't even bother with Raw and Smackdown, and why would I bother when we've got Joe, Finn Balor, Tyler Breeze, Big Cass, Enzo, The Vaudevillains Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Bayley on NXT not having to fight Kane and Big Show every main event or for the women to only be able to wrestle for a couple minutes.

I still watch RAW, more out of obligation than anything else, but if Lesnar takes the title back this next PPV and they continue to ignore the Tunney Rule, I'm going to wash my hands of it and stick with NXT. There's only a handful of guys I even care about (at this point it's pretty much the former Shield trio, Bray Wyatt, Kevin Owens and Neville) so I could pretty much just live with the recaps and clips from youtube.
NXT alone makes the network worth it, the PPVs are just a bonus (in theory, the last one was god awful). I'm always sad when anyone from NXT gets "promoted" up to the main roster - especially since some of these characters are so tailor made for an NXT style audience that the RAW audience would be too cynical for. I fear what would happen to say The Vaudevillains or Bayley - they'll get the Emma treatment and be stuck as low level jobber jokes with Axel and Mandow's "Mega Powers" at best when they'd really be the best thing going.

Stumbled onto this through my Youtube feed today. It's not realistic (for a number of reasons), and still not really my preferred choice, but I'll be damned if he didn't actually make a pretty compelling case here.

I agree, it'd never happen, it wouldn't be my first choice but damn if it doesn't sound like it'd be awesome.

So of course, now I'm curious, with the standard caveat that "I wouldn't" is the right answer , who would you have had break the streak?

I'm ok with this, outside of NXT I haven't watched anything else WWE in ages but this'd be enough to get me to watch Summerslam at least.

Probably makes the most sense to post this in here.
I know the whole "RKO outta nowhere" vine meme is pretty dated at this point, but it still amuses me, and I still think this works for a laugh. The editing is actually pretty smooth.
This would make the new movie more palatable, if nothing else.

Lucha Underground just finished it's first, and sadly probably it's only, season, and it was awesome. So many great matches, so many storylines coming to a head while managing to set up a whole lot more, that unfortunately are unlikely to get pay off. Johnny Mundo vs Alberto El Patron was probably the highlight, with Mack vs Cage and Mil Muertes vs Prince Puma being standouts as well. The only match that wasn't that great was Texano vs Blue Demon Jr. and from what people are saying that whole storyline was thrown off when Chavo Guerrero got injured.
I highly recommend everyone find a way to watch all of Lucha Underground week in week out it was not only great wrestling but even just great T.V. Plus one of the wrestlers is a Dragon, what more could you need?

It's now official, Stephen Amell is going to be wrestling in a tag match at Summerslam. Probably better than a singles match, since Neville can carry the workload for him.

That's my thought as well, Amell won't have to do much and the other three are really good so it should be a great match.

Yeah, it should be a pretty good set up overall - it'll help Neville gain some momentum (winning what's essentially a glorified 1 on 2 match), Cody can really go all out and bring a cap to the whole Stardust thing, or see if it has any legs beyond this arc, and it's not like Barrett's won a damn thing on PPV this year, so if he gets pinned by Neville again, there's no momentum to upend.
Plus, there's always a chance for a sequel match for next year when Amell can come back as Casey Jones instead of Arrow if they really want to milk it.
