I really hope his pilot gets picked up because it will suck if he can't show up as the Flash in Arrow this season just because his show was given a pass.

Two General Thoughts...
1. Laurel was slightly more tolerable than usual. Her acting is still the worst in the show but for once she didn't ruin an episode.
2. Wow. The mask really shows how amazing Stephen Amell's eyes are.
Other than that...
Poor Barry. I wonder if he'll be in that condition until his pilot starts filming. And the feels between Olicity at the end. Too bad Laurel had to ruin it with her gasping in surprise in realizing she has no luck with men.
And Finally: FULL BLOWN DEATHSTROKE NEXT WEEK!!!!

Meh. I think I'm too much of a tradionalist. Green Arrow, for me, means Ollie running running Queen Industries, at least cracking a few light hearted jokes and hanging out with ( off and on) with Black Canary in the person of Dinah Laurel Lance.
Watching it makes me feel like it need a small text stating "loosely based on the DC Green Arrow Comic Book series". It's just not Ollie, and therefor just isn't Green Arrow. End of story.
It's like if they did a Superman show and his name was suddenly William Jefferson Clark, because.
Granted my free time is scarcer now, but while I'm all for watching Green Arrow, I need it to be "Green Arrow". Not whatever this is.

I definitely feel as if Oliver in Arrow isn't really like Oliver in the comics in much more than his name, but I have to admit, I love Arrow's Ollie. They've completely Nolan-ized the character and concept, which is fine by me considering Green Arrow was originally just a Batman knockoff.
A big reason I'm enjoying the show is the same reason some people don't like it. Ollie isn't his normal self. Not to begin with at least. He's transitioning into that classic joke-cracking hero he was in the comics, albeit slowly. It's very similar to MoS' treatment of Superman. He's slowly transitioning into his old boyscout self. There's nothing wrong with a little character development, even if it does move a little slow.
Now for the reason(s) I really love Arrow: The Merlyns and Slade. The three of them are freaking awesome! Of course, Diggle and Felicity are cool too! And Barry...my God! I'm excited for the possible (read: inevitable) Flash show! They might've Peter Parker-ized Barry, but honestly, that's fine by me. Like with Ollie in Arrow and Clark in MoS, they're slowly evolving the character into the one we know and love.

I don't have the patience anymore. I'm in the mist of moving, working, going to school and taking on two volunteer jobs within the next month to six months. I'm seriously considering not tuning in again until I can watch Green Arrow, till then it's a waste of what little free time I have.
I also don't see it as *some* character development when we're entering year thee and we have......an eye peice. Oh, ya. It's party time.

I have to be on Drake's side right now. Watching Arrow, you're watching the journey one man takes from a vigilante of vengeance to a hero a justice. Year 1 was him finishing the list, him killiing those infecting his city, him saving his city through avenging his father. Year 2 you see him become a different man. He doesn't know how to fight crime without the list, and so he has to find the enemies himself. He has to make the call whether they are bad enough to kill or not. We're reaching the end of Year 2, not coming into Year 3, but it is a rather slow, but powerful character development, and if you like realism, this is a perfect example of someone changing their character realistically.

It's just not Ollie, and therefor just isn't Green Arrow. End of story. Tangentially related: This is also why I'm one of the like four people who hates Batman Beyond.

I'm sorry but the more I think about it the more I want to smash something into the wall, which sadly I can easily do since I'm in the middle of packing.
I can say I like a lot of it, love even. I love Thea and Diggle. I like what they're doing with Roy. I love that he still has one parent, and Moira is awesome. Deathstroke is fun, as always. And Jack as Merlyn was amazing.
Sin bothers me (6 to 16 is bit much) but I can live. The Nolan tone is not aging well for me at all but I'm used to it by now. Even if it is vastly over done at this point. If they wanted cooperate conflict I don't know what was wrong with Adrien, seriously. And so long as they need equipment where is Jax? I can only assume it's coming out of the woodwork somehow.
Ollie..I can swallow. In the comics he shook off the island in thirty seconds and maybe dragging this out is an answer to that. I don't know. If it is I couldn't really argue it.
But Laurel. No. Just no. For a thousand years no. Not in a million years. Absolutely not. Her "development" isn't character, it's another BS will they/won't they. They're making her as silly and complicated as they can so that Ollie can get his jollies off with as many other women as he can in the interim. That is all. In the meantime she's running around with an idiot ball so bad that Heros season two would blush at the sight. I'm wondering if her acting has anything to do with it, she doesn't seem as good as the others.
I looked this up, as research is kinda my thing, and they plan to drag her becoming BC into season 4 or early 5 right now. Maybe fan pressure will make them to move that up, or maybe they aren't telling the truth, but I don't know. As a female DC fan BC is right up there with WW and precious few others in the category of female heroes that don't suck. Don't get me started on the "boob window". She was in a pretty good place to make the jump before, but now? It's like she's going backwards.
I get there are going to be some changes, but screwing up BC, that's basic man. That's just painful to watch.

They have Black Canary in her sister. They don't NEED Laurel to be Black Canary. They have Black Canary. Plane and simple. She isn't really messed up, she's just different. Just like Superman in MoS and Spider-Man in Amazing, they're different not messed up.

While the Black Canary thing is one of the few things I don't like about the show, I'm still convinced that Arrow is probably one of if not THE best comic book adaptations we're ever going to get. I remain psyched for the show, no matter what the mrs. may think.
I just wish Amazon hadn't gotten dropped. We need Wonder Woman, and not as generic-action-chick in Snyderman/Batfleck.

I definitely despite Laurel. She's frankly the most annoying tv character I've seen in a long time. I'm fact, I find myself dreading every episode that she'll be important. Sadly, she now seems to be again.
I agree with everything you said Disciple.

As a general rule of thumb I consider faithfulness to the source material a secondary concern when it comes to adaptations. First and foremost it has to be a good product, and in that regard I'd say Arrow is mostly a success. Yes changes are made, but shouldn't the show be allowed to establish its own identity without being completely beholden to the comic books?

If that were true, then why adapt a comic to begin with? Why not just make a good show with an original character?

Because there's potential in transplanting the characters to a different medium, and/or exploring similar story lines from a different angle?
