Deadshot is in Detective Comics now. And you're the one that approved it.

I don't know what you're talking about... I didn't say anything about Deadshot...

Just read up to issue five, gonna read the rest tomorrow.
Gotta say that I'm pretty pleased with how things are going with Captain Atom.
I'm a huge fan of the character in general and the fact that he has such a big role in Checkmate and his own ongoing in the DCnU is keeping me pretty happy, plus it's nice that while the character is similiar in a sense your version is still different enough to be just as interesting with where your going with his powers.
As for the rest of the team can't wait to see how they fight off all those meta's.

Issue six was a good action packed issue and can't wait for #8 with the suicide squad.

Not happy with the lack of the Squad but I understand Buck is going through difficulties on the title.
As for you, Miller, how do I put this.. You're giving Jack far too much development. You're neglecting other characters and trying to build both him and the Starman mantle up to the point where I've lost interest. It's not even proper character building... It's like hitting us upside the head with Jack Knight shaped brick. It comes across abrupt and forced. Unfortunately, it wouldn't have been so obvious in Checkmate had you not released Father's Day a day before over in JSA. You have such a marvelous cast of characters to work with in both JSA and Checkmate and they feel secondary or worse next to him.

I don't think I'm necessarily trying to build him up, but he is the character that I'm focusing most of my JSA work on. I'm sorry you don't like it and I can understand how you don't. And I'm not going to say you don't have a right to criticize, but this is the story I'm choosing to tell.

Awfully defensive for me having a right to criticize. ^_^
It's only after Father's Day then that bit with King Faraday that I've come to think it. Probably only because they were released in such quick succession. Faraday and Jack's conversation came across as forced to me despite Jack is really your only character he could have asked that question. Perhaps, because he really is the only character you had to work with despite the giant cast of characters was the issue. Dunno.

I like the look of this cross-over. Jack's 'over-development' doesn't worry me, but it will be nice to see a bit more from the other characters. Great to see the interaction between the two groups and how it will grow. I'll be interested to see how you depict the battle in the Czech- something that I'd find intimidating. Also will be keen to see who Artemis 'is' in your interpretation. Cool.

I've only read one issue so far because I'm attempting to read a little of everything, but I like it so far, I'll hold my opinions for another issue or two, see if it gets worse or better, bur I'd rate the first issue a solid 7 so keep up the good work and looking forward to JL.

Okay issue 9 is up. And here I answer some of the folks who have been clamoring for more action in my titles.
And after this issue, I turn it back over to buck. It has been a pleasure and an honor writing this title. Very challenging most of the time, but I think it helped my writing immensely. Thanks for the opportunity, buck!

Alright thanks again, Miller. I'll be picking back up regular duties on Checkmate now and will be rounding out Volume one of the series. Miller set up some things that you'll see played out in Volume Two: Endgame

Even knowing the plans for Endgame, I did not see that twist coming.
Very awkward start but you hit your stride during the middle of it. Some issues with flow every few paragraphs but I liked it. About time Sand kicked some ass.

Agreed. There were a few pacing issues every so often but I enjoyed this issue and the last a lot.

I really liked this issue by Miller and the action scenes involved. I liked the battle and the fact Artemtis is the nice hardcore edge character who teases killing the villain until Sandy gasses her. I wish she had stayed in JSA actually...lol. But nice #9

Finally all caught up on Checkmate!
Buck, I'm really enjoying everything you're doing and am eagerly anticipating your return. King Faraday isn't a character I ever gave a lot of thought to most of the time. Definitely enjoying your use of him here, and glad to see him as something other than a lackey for The Wall.
Miller, I thoroughly enjoyed your guest arc here. Personally, I don't think your treatment of Jack is heavy handed. He's a character I really like though (and having just recently reread Robinson's Starman run, I might be a bit biased toward him). Big shoes to fill for you if he's your primary focus. If I had to point out a flaw, it would lie in the brevity of the action sequences. While some (like the climax with Artemis, Sand and Machacek) benefit from their simplicity, others (the clone army) suffer for it.

Action is something I'm really working on. It will be kind of the focus of JSA for the foreseeable future, so I hope I'm getting better. Glad you liked it!

Okay number ten is up. It's a very brief issue and it wraps up the events that happened way back in issue seven before Miller did his fill in issues. It's a short issue, but pretty pivotal in the overall storyline for the series. Hope you guys enjoy and look for issue eleven inside of the week.
Thanks to Wachter for helping flesh out the issue as well.
Hope you enjoy.

Okay I am way behind on this series, but I just finished the opening 3 part arc set in London. Interesting story and set up for a series, but very plot heavy. It suffered from the same thing your early issues of Zeta warriors did-lots of names and powers on the page but little done to establish who they were, what their personalities were and to distinguish between them. In Zeta I knew most of the characters from the regular DCU, here, many of the characters were unfamiliar to me so it all really became a blur on the page.
Some of the characters seemed like you wanted us to be sympathetic to them and care when they were in danger, but you hadn't laid the groundwork yet to earn the sympathy and care from the readers.
Zeta Warriors got much better in this regard as the series progressed, and I am hopeful that is the case here too, because it really is an interesting set up for a series that I want to like as I continue to read.

Honestly checkmate has been clearly my "other title" for awhile so the improvements aren't as noticeable. Eleven onward will definitely be stronger stuff.
