I'm all caught up. Gotta be honest, not feeling this series. I dunno if its because of so many characters you can't focus like you do with Spoilers or what, but I just can't get into it. Which isn't to say its bad. I like the premise and its well written. I just....don't care about anyone. Hell I flat out dislike Kord. I don't mean to be down on you because I love your writing. But so far BatB just isn't for me. DELAYED REPLY!!!! I completely understand you and knew that the series wasn't going to be for everyone just as I knew the characters wouldn't get as much development as they would if they were a proper team. As for you hating Kord... Then that means a job well done for me. He's not meant to be liked which I know is probably not what Ted Kord fans want to hear. --- The first BatB Annual is up. Gives you a nice look into Season 2 and provides a few profiles. With that out of the way, it's time for the Circus of Strange.

The annual was nicely done but oddly placed.

I thought the annual was well written, but misnamed. For me as a kid, I loved annuals because they were these extra long stories that were just jam packed with action and events that were too big to be contained in a normal issue. They were special issues that I looked forward to every summer with bated breath (in particular the Marvel annuals of the Bronze Age) guest stars, epic stories, huge villains, etc. SO when you say annual I get excited anticipating something huge and it was a short little story about the freakin' Film Freak.... As a sampler, or super sneak preview I would have been pleased, a special 8 or 16 page insert in another issue to whet people's appetites sure, but call it an annual and I am disappointed. You need to can your marketing people.... It was well written, and it looks like the upcoming season will be interesting, but the issue itself just felt a little pedestrian... -M

I feel ya. I had a scene with the Russian hero that just couldn't come out right. Also had one with a character I can no longer use. So I just went with Blue Screened + character profiles and supplementary info because I had to get an issue out. It was meant to be longer and perhaps during Circus of Strange, I'll release the other scene if I find the grove.

Not bad. I like this take on Blue Devil. I hope we see more of him. Keep em coming.

If all goes as planned, his story should span three titles with him being a main character in BatB: International, his transition into a Shinigami in Checkmate, and a family exploration in a third. At the very least. I found that design a long time ago and luck played out that I managed to claim him after waiting months for use. Plus, I've always been a fan of reinventing characters so that their core remains the same but you switch one detail so that they become something you haven't quite seen before.
Though, I'm not quite sure of his use of Senpai for Blue Beetle since he's both older than Jaime and more experienced at being a hero. I suppose I could make the argument that it was just proper manners and he is respecting Beetle for being in Season 1.
And... I think I finally got Buck's comment.
Since Season 1 happened about a month to two months after Superman issue 1, it has always been my intent for it to take place in the "past" of most of the other comics. It finished up in early November of 2011. That was part of the reason my Issue 0 should you the entire season with a focus on the major events like Kaldur going missing, Blackfire's rampage, Jaime becoming the Beetle, and Dan becoming the Scarlet Scarab. You guys have been able to reference them had you wanted to.
The Annual was done with the intent, much like my minor scenes in JSA, Zeta, and now YJ, to keep you guys up to date with what happens following Season 1 without revealing too much. I still have some cards up my sleeve as to the origins of people like the Question or what happens to the characters that made Jaime introverted... But the Annual now lets you see how the cast is in the "Present."

I liked Spoilers better, but this is still pretty good. Third Blue Beetle and Booster are definetly my favorite. With Booster in first and Beetle in second. Kaldur is awesome enough to become third, beating Mas y Menos and Batwoman for my top three. I agree with MRP on how annuals should be treated. Can't wait for the Circus of Strange and for the Crownless King.
